Default ExBo Prep - Installed Oil Pressure and Temp Gauges

Well, I will be tracking the aRR at the ExBo, so I figured it would be nice to know what's going on in the motor while I'm flogging the **** out of it
(plus I've needed an excuse to get gauges like these for a while...)

Since the car is pretty much stock, I decided to get Oil Pressure and Oil Temp guages. After much searching, I decided on Greddy Gauges because they came in the right size for the dual cluster bezel (52mm), were electronic, were black, and were very high quality. The Greddy gauges come with everything you need to wire them up, and it is all plug and play (not much soldering required). I also ordered a Greddy Block adapter to plug the sending units into - I wanted something that I could install easily, and would have very little chance of leaking.

Costs Including Shipping:
Greddy Oil Pressure & Temp Gauges = $263.31 from MVPmotorsports.com
Autometer Gauge Bezel = $78.40 from Summittracing.com
Greddy Oil Block Adapter = $68.46 from Importparts.com
Total Cost= $410.17 (ouch)

Here's some pretty pics:

New in box - aren't they pretty?

Greddy Oil Filter Block adapter:

Installing in cluster - stock clips were a PAIN to remove

Notice the pain in the *** bracket that has to be installed to mount the bezel:
(Autometer bezel doesn't use stock clips - uses bracket instead)

Oil Block adapter installed (easy):

We used Honda Lock (basically it's loctite) on the threads of the sending units,
we couldn't get teflon tape into the threads, it was too tight. Seems to be holding just fine...

Adapter w/ filter:

(it actually makes oil changes slightly easier, as the filter sticks out a bit more than stock)

All finished

Some Night shots:

I'm very happy with this mod - it wasn't cheap, but you only get what you pay for...
Can't wait to use em on the track!

(and don't tell me they don't match - I know that... but they look nice w/ the stock interior anyway IMO...)

Looks great!

Just our of curiousity... Can the green bulbs inside the gauges be changed with red/amber ones?

yeah - I was hoping they would, but they aren't green - they are clear. I think I would have to completely dissassemble the gauges to change the color, and they wouldn't easily come apart (not without prying...).

so I think I'm gonna stick with the green for a while, it actually blends in pretty well.

very nice! I guess the key is knowing where the temp and pressure should range.

so the oil temp is taken at the filter location? is that standard for all kinds of oil temp gauges? I woulda thought it would be located in the pan or something.

I don't think it matters much where the temp is sampled - I only have the stock oil cooler, so there isn't too much variation.

Just driving around, I'm seeing between 2 and 6 kg/cccm (28 - 85 psi) of pressure and 80 - 105 degrees celcius (176 - 221 f) ...

Eluder took a little video of the pressure gauge - shows how smooth the action is:
http://cs.widener.edu/~epanek/...e.mpg
(right click / save as)

Autometer p/n = 20011
more info here:
http://hp.autometer.com/produc....html

Thanks for the compliments guys

ps - the block adapter should work with other sending units, but you should check the thread pitch / size to make sure they will screw in...

Looks just like my car.

My oil pressure likes to hit around 6.0 kg/cm2 and then it'll drop to like 4.5 kg/cm2 and then max out at 5.0 kg/cm2 from that point on.

6.0 kg/cm2 x 14.22psi per kg/cm2 = ~85psi

5.0 kg/cm2 = ~71psi

4.5 kg/cm2 = ~64psi

Does that seem a little low to anybody? I always thought oil pressure was supposed to be sustained closer 80psi than 70psi.
