Oil Pan Dents...
i'm not an oil-pan-dent expert, and I understand that the dents are taking away from the volume that would normally have oil, but I dont see how the dipstick readings could be off by enough that would really make THAT much of a difference. (unless they're some HUGE dents...) just my .02
you would need a pretty good dent to screw up the readings on your dipstick. and if you have dents that size then you probably should look into finding a different oilpan

dents CAN screw up readings, and no, they don't have to be HUGE, they have to be placed correctly.
my pan has a dent in the center of it, that makes the stick claim it's full, while i have less than two quarts in it. i have to go an inch above the marker, to make sure it's actually full.

you can.. but being dented, and hit again to get rid of the dent, will probably overstress the metal, and it'll crack next time it hits something.

i really wouldnt worry about it if the dents arent too bad... wish i had a pic of amy's old oil pan. it looks like someone ran into a rock going 60mph. im surprised it still holds oil
