GRIT to polish GLASS?

what grit sandpaper should I use to polish my windows? they have water stains that wont come off and I figured polishing them would do the trick. So what grit and wet or dry?

i say 1000+. wet sand

I would go higher grit maybe 1500 to 2 grand.. You will see fine scratches with 1000 grit paper
