measuring voltage for the TPS

measuring voltage
Hi guys,
How do you measure voltage for the TPS? I heard you stick a safety pin in the red/blue wire and put a probe to that pin...is there more ways to measure voltage, ways that are more accurate? I don't have a test harness unfortunately...Any help is appreciated thanks
