Default h22a head on h22a4 block? headgasket?

just wondering what head gasket would be used when you put a older h22 head on a newer h22 block because i know that new ones are open deck and old ones are closed deck.....any other modifications to be done?

i belive you use the h22a1 head gasket,

that way all the coolant hole line up on the head, and water will flow where need be because of the open deck.

I put a H22a1 head on an open deck H22a. I think that the open deck gaskets are a little more integral to keeping the cylinders from moving around. Also there is little difference in the water jacket holes in either HG. I'd use the H22A4 HG. just my opinion though.

I clayed my motor with type-s pistons as well as springs retainers and i have .020 mill. plenty of clearance. But i also have my gears at 0,0. you should not have a problem

you stick some clay stuff on your piston, turn over the crank with the head bolted up and see the clearance between the valves and the pistons. well hopefully there is clearance
This way you don't damage your valves when you start the motor in case you built a motor with interfearance.

i'm using an h22a4 gasket on a A1 head/A4 block combo. the heads are the same..the P/Ns changed because of the block changes AFAIK

i would suggest something along the lines of a hondata because the Vafc i dont think offers enough flexibilty and is meant for light tuning. the hondata also comes with some cool features, but tuning for you is going to be VERY important...

Why would you skimp on the engine management and tuning after doing all that other stuff? That's like wearing an expensive designer suit with Payless shoes.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by PirateMcFred &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I would not Push any engine without tuning it first, and I would not use an H22 head milled .040" with Type-S pistons since you will be running about 12.8:1 compression with a stock headgasket on the H23 block. And if you do, retard the timing a bunch until you do tune it and put like 5 gallons of toluene in each tank of gas to boost the octane rating. Detonation is VERY hard on OEM cast pistons. They are fairly brittle.

We want pics. I want to know if your engine went lean while at 7500rpm with those injectors. If it was then that might have damaged the ring lands, if you damaged the ring lands then that is probably what scored the cylider walls.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Check your other thread and I posted this ^ You might invest in a thicker head gasket, but they are notorious for leaking in one fashion or another. So if you want to try to run a Very high compression H22 w/op tuning then you will have a repeat of your recent mishap. Either do it right or do it often.
