Default Is it worth it to get an R or just get the GSR?

I'm contemplating which car to get, i've been searching around here reading different posts and a lot seem to love the R but then again others arent so happy cuz people try stealing them for that precious c5 and well ig uess thats one of the main reasons people complain. So i'm in the market for a new car, right now i have a 96 Eclipse GST thats fast as **** but its time to move on. I had a friend that had a 98?(or 97?) type r, the champion white one, he let me drive it and i have to say it was great, cornering in the car is crazy. I drove the hell out of that car, we were going to trade my eclipse for the R but he ended up selling it to get a truck. Anyway, should i just get a GSR or go ahead and get the R? I'd love to have a type R but i'd hate to stress about it all the time. I suppose its prefrence but what makes it so different from the GSR? THe 10 or so ponies and the suspention? THanx

btw, money isnt an issue.

If you have to ask, get a GSR.

Read the board and find out for yourself, or find one of each to drive.

you should compare used ITRs to new RSX-S. To me RSX-S has a lot of potential, granted not as fun.

And, as opposed to ITR or GS-R, theft problem isn't bad for RSX-S (yet)..

If you are a worrier, don't get it.

There's a ton of differences between the ITR and GSR.

ITR chassis is 15% tighter than all other integras, and that's before the braces are installed.

Considered by many to be the best handling front wheel drive car ever made at the time of it's release.

GSR - 170 hp
R - 195 hp

R, better gearing....LSD.

Better interior....but no sound deadening material so the ride is louder....and rougher due to a stiffer suspension.

No side moldings, the rear wing is higher and functional. Front lip is stock on the ITR.

I could go on and on.

I totally agree with this statement as well. If you have to ask, don't get one. You either have it or you don't when it comes to this car.

Who said you'd be safer with a C1? The only time your GSR won't get stolen is when it's parked to a ITR with limited time frame.

Theft issue is only important when you compare to cars like Celica GTS with the ITR

Maybe that is a better interior in the eyes of the ITR owners. I for one like the ITR interior over the gsr interior.

no... we didn't say we don't worry... we DO... oh believe me we all do, and i'm sure a lot of us make a lot of sacrifice for these cars too. most that i know won't go to the movies, when i go to restaurants i get window seating, we pay a lot for insurance and invest a lot in security, or just don't leave them out of our sights.

you said you'd hate to stress about it though. in that case, don't bother.

and yeah the itr interior is pimp. i wouldn't trade ANYthing for my full red interior. except say, a different red interior.

Don't buy an R because we don't need anymore bad threads in here.

a Type r also comes with 5 lugs instead of 4 like the Gsr....
To me i think a Type R totally and feels like a different car from a Gsr
I dont think a type r comes with air AC also...
A type R was made for the track and to drive hard with. If ur not lookin foward to that then maybe u should stick with a gsr. I was in my friends stock Type R and that think was pretty loud in the highway. It sounded like he had al these stuff on his car on the highway but it was completely stock. That's how loud type r's can be on the highway. And Type R's aren't really comfortable cuz of the suspension. If u want a quiet car stick with the gsr also.

Gotta give you credit, at least you spelled suspension correctly That seems to be a big miss these days.

H'mm someone else had the same idea.

ouch... we're such snobs poor guy.

if you want performance and welcome the paranoia and have a garage you'll love it

if you want leather, sunroof and cruise control, ie "luxury", get a GSR.

whenever you post in here... bring a flame suit too...

like what? i'd really like to kno...

Anyways, man..i think honda-tech's the most flame-happy forum-site i kno of, lol. I do agree that if he has to ask what the diff is then he shouldn't get it, but all the extra little post-whoring, join-the-flaming! bandwagon comments were unnecessary.

I honestly wouldn't get an R, for its cost. I don't autocross, I'll probably start heading to the track as soon as I have some money for mods on my gsr, and i have LEATHER . All the significant advantages of the ITR over the GSR are in handling and suspension, and granted they are BIG advantages, but unless you plan on using the R for what it was made for, paying a few extra G's just so you can say you got a type R is nowhere near worth it.

my vote goes towards the gsr. For "spirited driving," I think the gsr's plenty.

P.S. Leather and Air Conditioning is your friend

Most of these people are right , you have answersed your own question. Right know I have gsr and would trade that and my left nut for a ITR any given day. It just mostly depends on the person. The more you know about the ITR the more you'll fall in love with it
