What class am I in?
I'm new to this whole road race/ autocross scene. It seems like it can be a lot of fun, and I want to give it a try.
The only thing I have done on a road course was an autocross in my old school Prelude back in 1997.
Anyway, what clubs should I join? Also, if I do go for autocross, or something better such as a full road race, what would my car be classifed with? Would I be running with ITRs or Corvette Z06?
Thanks a lot. Here's my setup..
1992 Civic CX hatchback, no interior in the back
ITR front and rear lower arms and swaybars
ITR factory shocks w/ Tanabe Sustec springs
Crossdrilled rotors front and rear, Goodridge stainless lines
Motul fluid, Project Mu V-Force pads
14" HX wheels w/ Toyo T-1S tires
under the hood...
12:1 compression LS block
GSR head, skunk2 manifold
itr cams, SMSP header(SOON, RIGHT DAVE??)
itr transmission, mugen engine mounts, etc. etc.
thanks again.

Yep. Sounds like Street Mod is the place in Solo2. The only thing you may have to do is add back a rear body panel or two, but that's only to be in *strict* accordance to the rules. Basically, if it's a local event people don't pay very close attention to all the details, especially in SM. Now, at a national level, that all changes... ;-)
Yes, Street Mod is prob the place for you.. Check this link to see the kind of competition you should expect in this class (at least on the National Level):

Yep, SM seems the right place for you. Let's see... looking at some big event results, you can find Eclipse/Talon, S4, Supra, ITR, Camaro... really a big variety of legal cars for the class. All ranging from minor mods to serious buildups

For autocross, with the rear intact again, Street Mod. Without the interior, D Mod.
Trust when we say you want to run Street Mod. D Mod is a bunch of ultra-light Lotuses.

Ok, so yank the rear seats and the spare tire/jack and cover lid.. but leave the side back plasitc panels in?
Ok, how about other stuff for weight reduction..
stuff i have done to my street cars before for drag racing purposes...
are any of these legal?
-remove SRS system complete airbags, harnesses, etc
-front and rear bumper support beams
-sound deadening material
-remove passenger seat?

Nope

All gotta go back in to run Street Mod. Or just run in D Mod with the car as-is, realizing you'll compete against carbon-fiber-bodies-tube-framed Lotus and similar cars.
But are they actually gonna check all this ****?
Like, are they going to yank my carpet back to see if I scraped the sound deadening?
And are they gonna yank my front bumper to see if the support is still there?
Doesn't seem like they would have enough time to check every single car from top to bottom.

Rest assured, if you finish last they'll never check. What I should say ('cause I've heard but don't actually know) is that if you start winning, others could question the legality of the car (at which point I'd think they check). If you are running mid-pack then I wouldn't think anyone would really care. I don't know however and I am not very much up on Solo II rules.
Best of luck.

It depends where you compete.
The tech inspection at the beginning of the day is for safety only. It does not involve class rules compliance.
It is up to the competitors to police each other. There is a formal system of protests that allows competitors to verify the compliance of others. At the national level, protests are common and sometimes made over small issues. Local protests are rare - usually people aren't cheating on purpose, just ignorant of the rules (and once told they are in non-compliance, they rectify the situation).
So, chances are, you won't be checked (novices generally are not competitive enough to bother checking). But what do you do if you start to do well? You either have to change classes or change the car.
If you want to run the car as-is, do so in D mod. If you wish to enter a class where you might be more competitive, put back the missing items and run Street Mod.

At all but the highest level there is no "checking". Classing is done on an honor system. If your car is illegal for a class is a plastic trophy worth more than the value of your word?
I agree. I would hope everyone here is honest about what mods they have made to their car and about their class legality to the best of their knowledge. It is one thing to run knowing you are incompliant, and to dq yourself at the end of the day so that the best DRIVER (not the person who broke the rules the most) wins.
There is a WRX competing regionally here is G-Stock (SOLO II) that is smashing times put in by a good driver in a Street Mod WRX that has all kinds of tuning and some weight lightening. In fact, he won G-Stock by nearly 4 seconds, and could have also won street mod. Now for the moment I am assuming that the guy is a driver extraordinaire, as I can't see anything on the car that isn't legal. But in the back of my head I am wondering if he hasn't used a chip to increase the boost, or something else.
I don't mind getting beaten, the other person obviously drove better. But if someone is cheating, that pisses me off. I go out there to drive the best I can and have fun, and if I drive better than everyone else in my class, maybe take home a trophy. But if you are going to go out there to cheat to win, don't bother. All you are doing is taking the fun out of my day, and everyone elses day that you are competing against.
I am hoping that this guy is a great driver, and there is only one run left this season. But if he shows up next season and continues to beat the pants off of everyone, it might be time to protest. It costs something like $1600 to have his engine torn down to check for legality, and if he is in violation he must pay it. I'd love to have everything be perfectly stock, and wouldn't mind paying to make sure (of course I'd organize a group protest so that the cost would be shared). I hope beyond all hope that he is on the up and up, and that will give me something to strive for.....but if he is cheating.....
Summary - Don't knowingly cheat or someone will get pissed off and kick your ***. It is the lowest thing you can do in motorsports short of sabotaging someone elses car.
