Default tick tick tick, fixed, tick tick tick

Just swapped in a z6 motor after rebuilding it and putting in a couple of other parts. the motor has a cam, cam gear, and i used the connecting rods and pistions from the a6 that came out of my si hatch. now the valves were adjusted to the correct specs for the camshaft, car sounded fine for about a day. then it sounded like the valves needed adjusting again, that wonderful ticking sound. so we adjusted them again. still made the noise. drove for a few more days until we had a chance to check them a third time. the valves still weren't out of adjustment. so, i ordered some different valve springs, put them in last night, adjusted the valves, and guess what, tick tick tick. the noise isn't quite as loud as it was before, but it still sounds like the valves need adjusting. any thoughts or suggestions on this? has this happened to anyone before in a different motor even, perhaps? as i am typing this i started to wonder if perhaps the distributor could be too far advanced or retarded, if perhaps that would cause a problem like that? well, any help would be appreciated. thanks.

I've heard that a ticking noise can come from the injectors as well. Might be worth a try...

I just know that my CRX has the tick-tick-tick also, only I've got the A6 in there. I need to adjust those valves. Is it a hard job for a n00b to engine work?

Nah, its not hard at all, i just put my z6 head back on, adjusted the valves, and i get thesame loud tick tick at low rpms. I put the stock cam back in too, used to have a zex cam, but i also have crower valvesprings, so that might be it.

adjusting the valves is pretty easy - it just takes a little bit of time to do.

y49crxsi - i just put the crower springs into my car, but am keeping the aftermarket cam in there - you say you put your stock cam back in? did that make the ticking noise go away, or do you still have the noise?

anyone else?

nobody else has run into this with any motor? i played with the timing and that wasn't it. something has to be causing this motor to tick like it needs a valve adjustment. anyone? anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be?

yeah I have the same problem. right after I put my ZC I could here, I checked my valves about 4 times, until I found out the noise was coming from my injectors. Is that what it is, they need serviced?

could also be your aftermarket camshaft making the ticking noise, I have a Webb cam in my D16 car and even after adjusting the valves, it still ticks noticably loud.

ticking seems to be fairly common, I know my civic does it. It's probably just the injectors. I wonder if its a peak and hold trait.

ok, i don't understand how the injectors can be making that noise, but if that's what it is, then how do i fix it? i am actually running the obd 0 injectors from the a6 cause i kept the resistor box in the car. i didn't want to have to wire in the other clips from the other harness for the injectors (my a6 injector plugs did not plug onto the z6 injectors). so, if there is a way to fix the injectors ticking like a bad valve alignment i'm all ears. or is this something that isn't fixable?

I don't know what causes it, but it doesn't mean that anything is wrong. You can service injectors by having them cleaned and balanced, but they usually don't have any problems. It may just be the injector functioning that makes the noise, I wouldn't worry about it.

i'm not worried about it - believe me the car is performing great - no problems there. I am just tired of hearing the ticking noise. there has to be a way to fix this. is anyone else running a comp cam grind number 59300? i'm going to give them a call today and find out if this is something that has to do with their cam or not, but don't know what they are gonna tell me. guess i'll just have to see.

Does the ticking go away as the car gets warm - or is it just a constant noise?

ceas..

i have had plenty of hondas and this is not the normal ticking noise. it's much louder and nothing should be causing a ticking that loud. something has to be off or not working the way its suppose to or something. we just haven't figured it out yet.
