Is there a gasket on my rear main seal plate?
I was assmebling everything today and installed the rear main rubber seal
do I just apply RTV sealant to mate the end plate to the block?
I didnt recieve a gasket for this in my rebuild kit and the surfaces look flush like they dont need a gasket.

well the engine is completely assembled, the shop doing the bottom end used hondabond
will high temp (says it exceeds oem specifications) gasket sealer work
I think its stupid to buy a whole tube of hondabond for 1 mating surface

Just buy some Ultra Grey RTV Silicone sealant. It's the same stuff as Hondabond. Some sheep on here will claim that if you don't use Hondabond, your engine may die or you may get AIDS. The truth is that the RTV stuff works just as good, if not better than Hondabond.
Ask for them to show you one person that has blown a motor from using RTV sealant.

thank you for your un biased opinion.
Some people here are so stuck on brands its rediculous.
Like buying a Mugen valve cover for the same price as my turbo kit.
But its my opinion and I like to spend money when its needed

mmm.... hondabond and Ultra Grey RTV Silicone sealant....NOT the same....
hondabond smells a lot better.
Also, have you seen Ultra Grey RTV Silicone sealant after years.......it will crack, get hard and fall off.
Hondabond....the hondabond that was in my 89 b16 was still ''soft'' and in perfect condition even after probably sitting in a yunkyard for probably 10+ years..
for important metal to metal, like oil pump and rear main seal cover i always use hondabond. When building an engine, spending $15 more dollars on hondabond is nothing...
Is not buying brand, is buying peace of mind....

I have seen Ultra Grey after 1-2 years, and it was still "soft". I have also seen the factory Hondabond after 11-12 years and it was hard and cracked, just as you described.
The important stuff will be replaced before the sealant cracks. Go w/ the cheaper stuff.
