ONE LAST TIME . . . PLS HELP!! TACH IS CRAZY AND NO ONE CAN HELP LOCALLY
Alright, in desperation, ill post this agian . . . . just incase someone missed it and may have a solution or idea for me
the symptoms:
- tach jumps around randomly
- motor kind of feels shaky, as if its not putting enough power to the wheels, then it will come out of it, when the tach stops jumping around when you give it a good bit of gas
- when the above symptoms happen, a sound comes from the engine, that sounds like rocker arms typically do, expect louder and more . . . grunty . . . sounding . . kind of
- ive noticed that when my subwoofer in the back hits, the tach will jump with it , so this gave me the impression it was electrical
what I've checked so far:
- bought a new distributor and put it on, didnt fix it
- checked all the wires, around the distributor nothing
- and no its not the tach itself, and no its nothing simple like plugs or wires
I am throwing a 19 and a 27 ecu code, the 19 is a transmission thing i know (its from where we convereted the auto to a 5 spd.) and the 27 i'm not real sure . . .
HAS ANYONE HAD SOMETHING SIMILIAR TO THIS THAT MAY KNOW WHATS GOING ON?
anything logical, that i havent already stated would be EXTREMELY helpful, considering this problem has been going on for a while now and i cant seem to understand whats causing it . . . . thank you very much

dude i have looked at every service manual i have and no code 27. your positive thats the code you are getting?
Code 19: Are you using a manual ECU?
Are you sure the other code is 27?
And to the tachbouncing situation, it sounds like you've got a short someplace. Check the alternator power lead to make sure it isn't grounding against the housing. Also go over any wiring that may ave been done during the swap as well as your stereo wiring.
Edit read the wrong code definition for 19.

yeah im almost positive its a 27, if i remember correctly, its called bah, electric load or something . . . . ill have to run it agian tommorow, my friend had never heard of a 27 either and neither have I . . . . the mechanic told me today that that the motor i put in, went with an automatic shift . . . so maybe the auto ECU isnt reading with my 5spd, which is out of a 95 si . . . . so those are somethings i can check . . . oh and thanks RedlinedVTEC for the alternator suggestion . . . ill try that tommorow, if you all think of anything else let me know . . . .

Yah my rex with a b16 swap had the same problem, tackometer would jump allover the place and stop working occasionally, my dizzy eventually took a **** on itself like 2 months later.

Can a bad dizzy also cause the speedometer to go whack?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Yes and make the jumpy and not feel right- Check that 1st
But this could also be an electrical short happening?

no no, i bought a whole new dizzy and it didnt fix it, so thats not the problem . . . ( i took it back though) anyways . . . THE PROBLEM IS FIXED! and i feel like an idiot, well, i shouldnt but my mechanic should . . . . a ground wire came loose, and he said he checked all of em, but regardless, it was the ground near the tranny . . . . tightened it up, and vwahla, no more tach probs
I wrote to your other forum, my car is doing the same thing it sounds like, but stalling too, did your car stall? I'm going down to check the grounds after I eat.

how about you grounds? If the sub hits and causes the tach to jump also but when gas is applied sounds like a grounding problem or like the other guys are saying check you ignitor unit.
had the same symtoms and my thermostat ground was loose. might wanna check that out. as for the code 27 i dont see that in my ECU write up and i searched everywhere to get all those codes and its not on my list
