Hey guys im pretty sick of looking at my heat sheild on my gsr brake set up i want to remove it. Do i have to take off the whole rotor assembly or does it come off by a couple of bolts???

When I pulled mine I cut them off with tin snips. It makes things easier to work on. But your rotors will get wet in the rain and there will be nothing blocking the suspension components from heat. Not that ive ever had any problems. But there is a chance you can run into some problems if you drive your car hard for long periods of time.

 

don't want to catch a pebble between your brakes and rotors do you?

not saying it won't happen with the heat shield on, but the shield does help somewhat....

if, for nothing else, you gotta shield other components from the heat

You will have to remove the rotor assembly...but, the good new is, it is only a couple of screws keeping the rotor on the hub(you will have to use a manual torque screw driver). the take a 90 degree phillips head screw driver and unscrew the heat shield and remove...poof! no heat shield.

Like was said before, the heat shield protects the rotor from flying crap and protects the brake lines and struts from excessive heat...you don't want your brakes getting mushy, that would be bad mkay!

 

But if i have stainless lines then im good to go!!!

 

up any other opinions i had a buddy that owned a type r that took his off he said you dont need them so.....

what is wrong with just leaving it??? does not weigh much.. unless it rattles somehow.. or rubbing against rotor.. bend it back tighten it.. they made it for a reason..

I had to remove mine to fit wilwood big brakes.

 

they do not just bolt on/off the hub. you will need to unsrew them but they do need to be cut off with tin snips

Allows for more airflow. On track, the more air to the brakes the less the chance of brake fade.
