whats the deal with blockguards?
I keep seeing these on import sites and ebay....
Is there any point to getting a block guard? Does it strengthen the block like getting it sleeved but less so?
I really have no clue so just humor me.
Thanks!

Suppoesed to strengthen the block but from what I hear causes cooling problems, how well does it strengthen I dont know?
If I didnt want to sleeve a motor I wouyld rather stud it then put a block guard in.

because some honda engines use open deck style block a block guard is used to re-enforces the top of the sleeves Alot of people are against block guards because, they claim it may affect cooling, which is true, but you probably could over come the cooling issue with, more efficient fan, good coolant and a good radiator.
improper block guard designs or improper install of block guards may cause the top of the sleeve to taper in or become out of round...and because the top of the sleeves are re-enforced the way they are it may cause a barreling effect on the sleeve....which i doubt will happen.
seriously, for a budget set up for a lil extra security its probably not that bad, thats my opinion.
