Just curious to know if this is common...? He put his header on today and noticed a crack all the way around one of the 4 pipes. I was just curious to know how this happen and if it happens often. The car is a 98 Civic EX with like 70k miles on it, so its not all that old. Thanks

 

yes ive heard of and known of some stock ex/si exhaust manifolds cracking. its not very common but it doesn happen.

lol...jim was talkin bout me...mine cracked at the pipe comin off cylinder one...all the way through the manifold

 

Happened to me too, 93 Si, about a 2" crack along the Cyl. 2 pipe near the flange to connect to the bottom half of the header. caused a hissing sound, one of the many.

It's pretty common on 96 and 97 models. I've only seen a couple of 98s crack.

 

my 97 ex d16y8 had a hairline crack in it.... i didn't even know about it till i took off the stock heat shield cause i was bored....

 

This seems to be very common with the sohc mani's so your not alone
