Default ABS light will not go off

My ABS light will pop on when i get to about 5mph. What is causing this? A bad sensor? When i go to slow down my car will shake a bit. I do need a new pad i know on my driver front. But would that throw a code? And another thing, the other day i was driving and beginning to become a bit curious if my ABS was actually working. So i smashed the brakes running about 60mph and my car squeeled to a stop. So obviously they didnt work. Any answers guys?

So, if you turn your car off and restart it...your ABS light does not turn on while it is idling?

When was the last time you changed your brake pads??

Try this. Pop the hood and pull all three fuses for the ABS system. Wait 15-30 seconds and then put them back. See it that resets the ABS computer.

Also, check your ABS and brake fluid. There is a reservoir for each. I believe the ABS reservoir is in the back left corner of the engine bay. The brake fluid reservoir is near the back right corner of the engine bay.

I have a feeling resetting your ABS computer will cure the problem.

I will do that and i will let you know what happens. Would the ABS resevoir use Dot3 brake fluid as well?

Yes, I believe so.

I had a similar issue. I went to test my ABS and right when I slammed on my brakes, the ABS light came on and the ABS no longer worked. I had to pull the three fuses to get it to work again.

Also, you will want to make sure the cap on both the ABS and brake fluid reserviors are on nice and snug.

Good luck. Hopefully, this fixes the issue. If not, post back.

if your abs doesn't work then light is definately gonna come on. could be a wheel speed sensor which the main problem for abs malfunction. these sensors have an adjustable air gap that could be clogged or out of adjustment

i believe in my other car when I was low on brake fluid the brake light would come on. Whenever I touched the brake peddle the abs light would come on... did u check the fluid yet?

see, mine comes on wheni start rolling. so it must be a sensor. Does that mean that sensor is bad or can it be cleaned off. I am about to go and try pulling the ABS fuses and letting the codes clear out and trying over.

It is most likely your abs/wheel speed sensor
take a look under you car at all the wss and make sure the cable hasn't
snapped or anything, my car got impounded and the same thing happened to
me, they broke the sensor towing my car, rewired it and it was fine,
no more abs light

if the lines aren't broken, there is a certain way to check the
continuity of each sensor to see if it is good. you have to do it a certain way
though of else you can possibily fry your abs module. i don't remember
the exact way, but i could probably figure it out for you. i don't have a helms though

There are ABS sensor rings on the axles.

yeah, what number is the sensor on the pic? I am to know all possibilities that i can try to fix it without having to buy a sensor. I only have a Chiltons and it is about as useful as a 12th century map of Africa. So tell me what to do and i will see if it works.
