Thinking about an ITR
Hey guys. Never posted in the ITR forum before. I am currently driving a 92 boosted prelude and had an ITR offer that i believe is a good deal. Let me know what you think........2001 Type R , Phoenix Yellow, 23,000 miles Bone Stock for $15,000. Is this a good deal? I do not know much about ITRs but i have always wanted one. Now, here is the catch, I like modding a car with big power gains. Example, Boosting the prelude. Can you boost Type Rs? How reliable are they? I think i am actually leaning toward nitrous. What setup should i run with nitrous, say a 75 or hundred shot? Wet or Dry? Blockwork or no blockwork? What kind of headwork for nitrous? I will be driving from Greenville, SC to Myrtle Beach (about 4 hours) very frequently so i dont think turbo would be the best route. I have heard rumors that ITRs are over rated. Can you guys clear this up for me? Basically, what can i do to a type R that i can bust on everybody on the way to the beach and have a reliable and fun car? All help is appreciated sorry for such a long post i just need these questions answered before i make a desicion. THANKS!
Have you ever driven an ITR?
I think thats a very good price for a stock R with those miles.
Many people have boosted ITRs with much success- search H-T for that.
A bone stock R with normal maintenance will be as reliable as any Honda/ Acura.
A boosted R done right will also be reliable.
I would not recommend Nitrous on an R, I have seen many people here break stuff- but also if installed right you should have min headaches.
As for overrated, refer to my first question.
To make the car faster... thats just to vague- simple bolt-ons will yield nice results, internal work will make it faster and reliable if Done properly
Good luck on your decision.

Thank you for your input. I was leaning towards nitrous because i have already experienced the turbo and with as many trips i will be taking i dont want to risk it. "done right" in my opinion means a lot of money and i dont have the cash for that because i am going to college in june. itr206 has got me believing that nitrous is great on the ITRs so i would love to hear more opinions and experiences. Thanks Bbasso
oh yeah and no i have never driven an ITR.

See if you can drive one before you buy one- Its not for the everyday Person.
Also if the owner is cool maybe he could take you out on a spirited ride
and you might just be happy with the car stock.

Well let me make it more clear......What do ya do to a type r to see large power increases and still have a reliable car? Nitrous, Turbo, All motor? And I understand that any can be reliable if built right I am just asking for peoples' opinions/experiences. Oh and i did search and all i found was people saying nitrous will blow it up and one guy saying that it wont so i was asking for more opinions.
Most of us will just say to learn to drive the car in its stock for.. although power is fun... It dosn't make it any faster on a road course necessarily.. If you are going into this with the idea to make this a drag car... I would chose something else personally. Go drive on and make your decision from there.
boosting a R would just be like boosting a lude, as long as its done right with a built motor or what not, same goes for if you were to go nitrous. but the thing is itrs arent meant for going staight and lets get the best 1/4 time. its a track car its meant for corners n **** liek that not straight. but that is a good price for an R with those miles.

keep the lude.. if you're going to mod the hell out for itr, just keep modding your prelude.. and yeah. you can make it as fast as you want.. engine is b series so it wodn't have torque like your prelude but you have more upgrade options, spend your money rebuilding improving your existing car..

Ummm...No. That's a little on the low side, but not too cheap. There was a stock one down here on a used car dealer's show room floor with a clear title and similar milage for the same price.

Yeah definetly drive one first, I am a Prelude owner
sorry for butting in guys, but my buddy has an R and I drove it once and let me tell you it was orgasmic fun!!! LOL j/k but the R is definetly a sports car to me. I wished I waited longer before I purchased my lude.
