It runs pretty good. It runs really rich though. Everything is factory on my jdm h22 and it fails emissions bad due to hydrocarbons. But when it idles it sounds like it is missing or what muscles car people call "hitting a lick." What could it be?

Oh and i thought it was a bent valve but that would make it run bad all the time right?

yeah i think so..It runs extremely stong. I mean i am putting down a 14.9 on a stock jdm h22. That is pretty good...it just sputs and runs extremely rich. Dunno why.

I think I have the same problem....

Do you notice it a lot if you stand behind the exaust...the exuast sputters or comes out in surges much more apparent than usual?

I think mine is related to frequently fouled (DESTROYED) spark plugs in CYL #1

check this thread for the horrible pix:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=752217

there appears to be pre-ignition or some other problem in my engine thats causing the plugs to melt & exaust to sputter.

A Honda Tech. swapped the injectors from #1 & #3 if I recall & told me to come back if I have future Issues...it runs a little better but as time goes by the sputtering seems to be gettign worse (its been 3 weeks).

So If I were you I would read my thread above and/or check your spark plugs first. Then maybe have the timing looked at (I think I will have mine looked @ too...Honda didnt notice it b4 but maybe I need to tell them specifically to take a look at that...)

keep us posted

PS: my USDM H22a1 ran a 14.6x 1/4 mile w/ I/H/E about 2 yrs ago w/previous owner & it seems to run pretty good...but its prob. not running quite as well right now...(I will have to run it at the track myself this summer to see how it goes now)

hummm...i havent checked the plugs...purhaps i should to see if they are burned up. I just put new ones in when i got the motor. It came from Japan. When i got the motor the timing was advanced so far that the distributor only had one bolt in it. You dont think that damaged the motor do you? It is low milage. See, i also have problems passing emissions. I fail on hydrocarbons. All of the gas isnt being burned in the combustion chamber. The only way i can fix this to make it pass is to boost the timing up. I dont want to do this cause it isnt good for the motor. But i believe it will be the only thing that i can do to make my car pass. It hasnt passed yet. I have only run it once and that was before advancing the timing. I may have the same problem that you had. It never runs really bad though. There are times when it seems to be sort of weak, but i think that is normal. I ran a 14.9 in a 1/4 on a stock jdm h22. That is pretty good from what i hear. I have a MSD cap and wires. I was using splitfire plugs. I think i will pull them out and check them this weekend. Anymore advice would be nice. Thanks guys...keep it coming!

im having a similar problem in my 5th gen. when i first start my car it idles around 2500rpm then when it warms up it goes back and fourth from 1500-2500rpm and after i drive it a little bit it goes from 1400-1500rpm back and fourth. also if i let my foot off the gas it kinda jerks. could it be my timing or something else?

ooitzdavidoo do you have any engine codes? I got similar problems, and I was told that the IAC is to be blamed.
