Default Just back from the drag strip

I ran my 92 Si with a stock jdm h22a this weekend on a 1/4 mile. I was a bit disappointed witht he results...not to mention this was my first run ever on the track. All i have moded on the car is MSD plug wires and cap and a DC sports catback. The best pass was a 14.9@ 92mph. I was hoping to run mid 14's. Is that a bad time on a near bone stock car? I had great reaction times and my 60' times averaged around 2.3. I was running about a 9.7 on the 1/8 mile. I felt like i was loosing speed inbetween 2nd and 3rd. Any opinions anyone?

that's a fairly reasonable time
what elevation is the track at?
what rpm's were you shifting at?
did you stay in vtec through each gear?

post up your whole slip so i can see it. what kind of tires were you using and at what psi? also, do you just have a cat-back or an intake also? and i hope you have a high-flow cat or else that cat-back isn't doing much alone.

how do i post a pic of my time slip? I do not have a high flow cat...i have a test pipe but i took it off for emissions. would i run better if i put it back in? i do not know the elevation. I was running on bad street tires. i had my tires at 25 psi. I was shifting at 7800/7900 rpm and i was in Vtec the whole in shifts.

well you don't really need to post a pic you can just type it up. I would also recommend you use your test pipe at the track to help out exhaust gasses. also, get some sticky tires, something like falken azenis, yokohama avs es100(which i use to use and highly recommend) or if you want the best traction some BFG drag radials. I too shift at about 7900 rpm so atleast you got that down. good luck next time.

Get yourself a test pipe for a dyno replace the cat. When you go for emissions put the cat back on.

Your 60' times aren't good. Practice some more.

Agree. Try and get your 60' time down as close to 2.0 as possible. The 60' time tells you if you are spinning your wheels too much on take off. You should try and spin the tires as little as possible.

Also, don't worry about your reaction time. The clock only starts once your front tires start to move. Reaction time doesn't play ANY factor in your 1/4 mile time.

Take off at your own pace.

I was launching when the 3rd yellow light lit. I did this because so that i could bring down my 60' time. Tires would help and i will put the test pipe back in. I am running on a stock clutch..Purhaps i get a better clutch, then i can feather my way out of first and nail it once i hit second. Any advice anyone? I will list 2 of my slips...these are pretty much what all of my time results were. Take a look and give me some advice.

R/T ... .630
60' ... 2.203
330' ... 6.462
1/8 ... 9.888
MPH ... 71.64
1000 ... 12.836
1/4 ... 15.313
MPH ... 90.22

R/T ... .339
60' ... 2.367
330' ... 6.445
1/8 ... 9.750
MPH ... 74.88
1000' ... 12.586
1/4 ... 14.987
MPH ... 92.28

Keep in mind that the .500 reaction time is already added in...so add the time posted.

I don't think you understood me. No matter what light you go on....your 60' time is not based on that. The light can turn green and you cna sit there for 5 seconds....the clock doesn't start until you start moving. That is why I am saying not to worry about your reaction time. It doesn't matter if you are only concerned about your 1/4 mile and 60' time.

ok...i got ya andy! So...how can i bring the 60' down? Would you suggest getting a better clutch and then feathering out during first. In one of my runs you can tell that one 60' time was quicker but in the quarter it was slower. Why could that be?

I have been thinking about boosting on the stock h22. Push about 9psi. What do you think? Or should i build internally first? And i agree..prolly was the driver!!

The et isn't all that bad. 92 mph is good for mid 14's, just practice a little. IMO, there really isn't any real technique, just try several different methods, figure out which is the most consistent and master it.

I am not really into drag racing so i am not sure of the technique. My friend who is says that you need to feather the clutch so that your tires are just about to break loose, but dont. You need to keep the revs up to. I just can't make myself abuse my car like that.

When you start spinning the wheels, that is BAD. You are slower when you spin your wheels.

THe 60's time basically tells you how well your traction is. Your car should be capable of something slightly above 2 seconds. Anything more than that means you need to address how you are launching your car, whether it be slipping the clutch more or reducing the wheel spin.
