How wide of tire can I go?
My prelude is a 5th generation. I have 18 inch rims with no tires. The rims are 18 by 7.5. The offset is 48 mm. I plan on dropping on skunk2 coilovers. I plan on going with 35mm tires. I would like at least a 2.5 inch drop with camber correction. How wide of tire can I go? Can I safely go with a 215mm wide tire without any rubbing issues or having to pound out my fenders? Or will I be restricted to only 205s?
i have 17 inch tires on my 94 del sol with h22a swap..let me tell u..the heavier the rims are the more its gonna slow u down...cuz the stock acura rims i put on made my car take off and maintain a good steady strong take off..with out much lag in it at all...so go with 16 for best performance and 17 and up for show
Honestly, I am not one for street racing and such. I do not do any sort of racing wether it be legal or not. I do know that the bigger rims will hurt my acceleration and mess up my speedo readings but I do not mind. I just don't want my tires to rub thats all.

Never rubbed once, and I go to the canyons and make fast turns every weekend.
The car's sitting on H&R sport springs, the one with the 1.4" drop. The only down side is the tires are thinner on a 35 series and you need to watchout on potholes. My wheels shown in the picture above got bent and cracked by a pothole on the freeway
So i'm back on my stock 16's

get coil overs that way you can change the height of the car
and with the linear spring rate the spring wont compress as much as a progressive spring rate ( just springs ie pro kit springs) so you wont rub during bumps

Does it matter that coil-overs tend to be a bit more bouncey? Like if I plan to go with a drop like that will I have to go with springs if I don't want to rub?

I have a 94 lude 4WS with 215/35/18's and had neuspeed race springs (2.25"drop). rims were 40mm offset. look at my website and see. with the 40mm offset they tuck inside the fenderwells with no rubbing! my bro has a 2001 lude with eibach springs (1.5" drop) and he is runnin the same tire size as me. There again, no rubbing. stick close to stock height as possible. Here is a reference chart for tire height. http://www.preludecrazy.com/wheeltyre/tyredia.php This site rocks! and thats my two cents.
I have 225/45/18 Nitto's and they did rub a bit when I first got them, but now they don't even rub.
I had to AutoX with them once and I didn't hear any rubbing either.
With 225's I doubt you could drop it more than 2inches without rubbing

He was asking about the 5th gen not cars with 5th gen engines... Sorry to flame but damn!!
I put 215/40/17'z on the car...I get minimal rubbing in the rear because i have a subwoofer setup dropping the back suspension...Once i remove it it will be fine...If you go wider, it will look so sweet but you may need to cut a piece of the plastic in the back...
