Default smog/dmv/engine swap question. help me figure this out

okay so i get a thing in the mail saying I have to smog my car at a test only station in april for my registration this time around (90 crx dx). anyways, i'm not driving it at the moment and i'm doing a lot of work on it (including swapping in a gsr engine)

My main question is, since I dont plan on finishing my car up to drive until early summer, what do I do concerning the smog and registration and all that? Do I put it on non-op status or tell them i'm busy swapping it out and take it off non-op when the engine is in and then take it to the ref? I plan to have it all obd1 and CARB approved at the ref station and all, so I'm not worried about it not passing. help me out here, please. thanks in advance!

I was in same situtaion too. Smog needed on my registration but it broke down.
I did that non-op on my registration on my galant when my AT transmition broke
i just check non-op on my registration and pay $10(that was 2003 dec)
when I got it fixed on jan so I went to DMV brouht my registration and pink slip
I told them it was a non-op and they registered my car temporarily within a month(until feb) and told me to smog the car and come back .
Ill say after putting it on non-op when you got your car working smog it so you won't have to come back twice to DMV or you can take the temporary registration then smog it

your choice
