Default Do u have to break in a newly rebuilt head from ACURA?

I just had my entire 01gsr head rebuilt by acura because i found a bent valve in the head....since it was under warranty, i had them rebuild the entire head with stock OEM parts, does the head need to be broken in at all??? cuz when i got it back finally, i noticed more than usual blue smoke (whitish smoke) coming from the exhaust...im a little concerned that this isnt normal.. or is it? should there be non visible smoke or fumes...and if i had to break in the head, how many miles should i go before pushing the motor..the dealership had the head sent to a machine shop and i wanted to know wat i should do to see if the head was done properly...THANKS

im going to go out on a limb here and say that you should probably take it easy for the first 500 miles or so...

Change the oil and filter several times asap if any assembly lube was used at all (if they are any good, it was)

And you should not see any white smoke of any kind, atleast I dont see any reason you should.

do I have to break in my rebuilt engine part - is the same as - can I run the **** out of my car as soon as I get it back from busting it the first time I ran the **** out of it?

I would say... I have no idea, I'm not a mechanic, so I would take it easy on it for 500 miles or so.(ignore the part where I talk out of my ***!)

i guess we should go easy on the motor for few hundred miles, but can anyone confirm this? and also confirm if smoke coming out of the exhaust is normal or bad.....thanks HT

I can confirm when my LS was rebuilt, i had a very small trail of white smoke for the first 300 miles or so, and then it cleared up. I changed the oil every 200 miles just to be safe.

gd luck

It's recommended that when you replace any major part of the drivetrain with new components, that you take time to break them in properly. Don't baby it, and don't stress it, just drive "normal."

20 minutes of 2500 rpms on startup should be enough to break in new head. And usually enough to seat your rings too.

If you have new cams in the car I let my car idle for 20 min. No real break in period if everythings installed properly. ITs nothing to worry about. The smoke seems to be a normal thing. Like i said earlier mine did that as well.
