Noob questions, provided by a noob
Hey guys i read alot of the posts on these forums and am happily to finally join you all. Been reading up on stuff the past few weeks here just gaining some insight. Anyways i have a few questions, I would like to get my hands on a civic of course and am wondering what some good starting mods would be.. i dont wanna be perceived as a n00b ricer so im not gonna dress my car up, just want it looking clean, as for performance.. thats where i wanna spend the majority of my money. Ok im looking at a 2000 civic hatch right now using autotrader for about 8k with only 40k miles on, i think thats a good deal but my dilehma is if i would decide to drop a new engine in it that would seem like 2 much of a waste, is there any recommendations as to model/years to civics in hope that they arent to worn out but at the same time good price, around 8k is my limit but obviously a lower price would be better. Also as i stated above what a some good starting mods besides intake exhaust to help performance wise that would be recommended. 1 more question kinda off topic before i go.. i was reading up on the different types of b16a honda engines and i had come across 2 different sites talking about the civic VTI engine otherwise known as the b16a i think, anyways 1 site listed the hp at 158 while another listed it 168, i tried to see if they meant it for a different model type but for the years 96-00 the engine code was the only i could find for the VTI.. i was asking about the VTI because in terms of HP it seems to have a little more umphh then the SI if it were 168, anyways any answers would be greatly appreciated

$8000 seems pretty steep for a hatchy. all my friends were able to find there 96-00 civic hatches for under $5500 with average miles and in good condition. i say keep looking

this is where common sense kicks in. You have 8k.. buying an 8k car.
why don't you buy a 5th gen(92-95) year hatchback, sedan, coupe, whatever flavor you like. That could cost you 2-3 grand, then put the other 3-4 grand into mods. 8k for any civic is silly. Also, how old are you ?
A lot of fantasy tuning on h-t lately. You sure your mom will allow you to mod your car.

Not North America, but Europe has the VTi, it is the local version of the SiR.

The Civic VTi with the B16A2 is 160PS, about 158 HP, the same as the US 99-00 Si, and Del Sol vtec. The JDM 92+ had 170PS, about 168 HP.
The Aerodeck VTi had a B18C4 that is rated at 170PS, about 168HP, same engine as the GSR basically

Things like punctuation and paragraph spacing make what would be a giant run-on sentence easier to read. People are going to look at your huge pile of words and move on because they don't want to get a headache and quite honestly, it's a pain in the *** to read such monstrosities.
If you're here to learn, then good for you. Make your questions a little easier on the eyes and I think you'll find that the response will increase. Just some friendly advice.

Have you thought about buying a civic with a blown motor or a messed up head? These can be had for much less then the average civic and if your planning on swapping motors you might as well do that right away. Maybe an eg or earlier civic since they are soo much cheaper to be had and you'll end up replacing pretty much everthign that gets wear and tear on except the body if your goign all performance.
If I were you....
I would buy an old high-mileage EG for cheap and then use the rest of the money to put a gsr in it. You could easily do that for $8000.
And you would be happy!
