Default brake upgrade for my DX

I want to upgrade my front and rear brakes on my 89 DX. I don't want to go bigger right now, just stop better. I have new rotors and pads up front, but I know it can be better. I'm going to keep the drums in the back, but I'd like to know who makes really good pads for them? I plan on replacing the cylinders and all that aswell. on the front I just want some better calipers, what factory honda calipers can I bolt on, or easily modify, to fit my DX hubs? also a good pad for the front, I have VGX mettalic pads, but there not that great. Right now I have brembo blank rotors, i'll probably stay with them. how about the master cylinder, can I get a better one? I saw on here about using one from an 89 prelude? I assume that bolts right on? I did do a search and I've found little bits here and there, these are the questions I have left

i have a 89 crx i added the following
1. 90prelude si mastercylinder
2. 90-91 style brake calipers, they bolt up to the 89 perfectly.
3. 91 rear disc swap
4. 91 integra prop valve.
im not sure if the 90-91 calipers are better or not, but for me it seemed alot better.

the master cylinder is where i felt the most difference

cool, I'll defenitly get the master cylinder then. I'm still trying to figure out who makes a good set of pads for the rear drums. I want something better then stock.

I think you'll be happy with OEM rear shoes for the drums. On my car (on race tires and only track driven) I have plenty of bite from the OEM rear shoes in my drums. If you want to upgrade your brakes, take a long hard look at your tires.

yeah, I don't plan on autocrossing(I'm not that good a driver) so i'll go with the OEM pads. How about some calipers for the front? are all honda calipers about the same? I was thinking integra calipers, but I don't know if they bolt on, or what?

I'm not sure what the prelude MC size is off hand, but the MC from a 90/91 4 door EX is 15/16". That's the same size that the Integra runs so it would be a good match if you go with the rear disc upgrade.

It's not a good upgrade to just change out the MC on the stock brake system. The MC pushes a set ammount of fluid to the brake calipers. If you use a larger MC then you are going to push more fluid. What will happen is you will push less on the brake pedal. This might feel good at first, but from personal experience it's pretty scarey in tight unexpected situations. You don't have much room to modulate the brake pedal so it tends to lock up the wheels quicker than with the correct MC. Perferably you have some distance in the pedal to modulate the brakes.
