Default Interesting Diesel Truck towing a trailer sighting

I was in the mountains last weekend and a Ram Dually Cummins pulling a large horse trailer (loaded - 5 horses in the trailer, and it looked like 5 people in the cab) pulled out in front of me going the same direction (up hill). I thought it was a shitty thing to do, but I wasn't gaining any ground. Within about an 1/8 mile, he was already doing 60ish mph. Guessing he was pulling about (including the truck) 20,000+ lbs. (truck = 8k+, trailer = 6k+, 5 horses = 5k+, people and stuff = 1k+). When I finally got around him (going down the mountain) there was a decal on the back glass "Cummins Pulling Team". Has anyone ever heard of this? I'm pushing 675 ft lbs, he had to have at least 1000 ft lbs. Any thoughts? Just curious...

TDC rules See my sig.

I forgot you have one. I just picked one up after getting sick of dealing w/ the Durango. No more overheating or running out of juice for me. I can't imagine towing with the Durango to the Glen. BIG old hills to go over. 626 ftlbs. You must have done the torque plate huh? Stick?

If you haven't checked it out yet, http://www.turbodieselregister.com

We had the Cummins Performance Upgrade installed, that way it stays under warranty (engine is under warranty for about 80k more miles). Ended up having to get another torque converter too (it's an automatic - wife is nervous enough pulling a horse trailer, I don't think she could change gears too) Before the torque converter, if the highway entry ramp was damp or wet, and you floored the throttle, the rear tires would break loose (spin). Troublesome when pulling a trailer. Do you know of any places to ask if anyone has heard of anything related to the "Cummins Pulling Team". Be honest, I thought it was a V10 supercharged with Nitrous or something, shocked the **** out of me (still shocks me). Thanks....

Never heard of the pulling team. Maybe that is because my truck is a Powerstroke. I do know that a few guys @ http://www.ford-diesel.com claim 12's. You might try there. I think that there is a 'other' brand forum where you could ask. Could have been just a pumped up monster running propane & more boost.

You people need to watch Speedvision's Motorsport Mundial Fridays at 7:30, FIA European Truck racing, the kind with real 6 wheeler cabs.

Warren and Civicrr - thanks for the links, they do help! Everyone else, thanks for the input. I bet it is pretty funny to watch a turbo diesel truck run a 12 in the quarter mile...

Throughout the week, I've eMailed companies and ended up getting a message back this morning. You guys were right, the "Cummins Pulling Team" refers to Truck Pulls, as in Tractor Trailer type truck pulls and also full size truck (like our trucks we use for tow vehicles) truck pulls. He said it wasn't uncommon for Ram 2500 and 3500 series truck to be modified to put out 1500+ ft lbs of torque at the wheels (forgot to ask the amount of HP but it must be about 800 hp), but most of these are used as competition trucks. He said beyond 1500 ft lbs, the drive terrain was snapping to often. Basically these guys get either a bigger turbo or twin turbos, then install modified fuel pumps, turbo extras, injectors, exhaust system, engine internals, then modify the computer on how much fuel to give so they do not go over the limit. He said most series are not allowed propane injection, but that is a fast way to get another 250+HP & 450+ ft lbs.

Learn something everyday. Hell, I just thought it was fun when someone pulls up next to you (trying to get in your lane at a stop light), then taking off with the person trying to catch up. Can't imagine doubling the HP and Torque...would be funny as **** pulling up next to a vette, mustang or viper with a turbo diesel truck and pretty much stay right with them or pulling away. I can see it now, guy (or girl) takes they're car back to the dealership and says "something is wrong with this thing...a diesel truck just handed my *** to me".
