Aftermarket Cam Gears.
I myself have always wondered the advantages of aftermarket cam gears.
I understand the fact that they make timing advacement and retarding easier, but can't this already be done with stock cam gears?
I've also wondered as far as weigh is concerned if these billet aftermarket ones such as AEM are lighter than the stock cam gears? (And if so if this gives any sort of advantage?).
Is the use of aftermarket cam gears with stock manufactured cams a good idea? (I'm running a b16a head with GSR cams)
Another question I have wondered is whether or not a cam gear is a cam gear or if their are brands to go for? I am picking up a set for free for my LS/VTEC that came off a b16a and they area some brand that begins with an H? Never heard of it.

No. They make it possible to advance or retard CAM timing; not ignition timing. You have more control over the valve events with cam gears. You can move the opening or close event forward or backwards a few degrees and you can also vary the amount of overlap by moving the cams in opposite directions.
Hope this helps a little.

As for the cam gear being a cam gear... I'd be wary of the brand you use. I've heard of certain cam gears slipping
...so make sure those cam gears you got are from a reputable company, or sell those things quick.

it won't harm the engine but i suggest you get some gears so you can gain the most power with those cams.
