Default Tire Rub: Remove splashguards?

Just got some 16" wheels with 205/50 tires. They rub when whenever I hit dips, no mater what the speed. This only happens in the front. What can I do about it? I have stock suspension, and I'm not looking to spend a lot of money.

What are the negatives of removing the splashguards? How hard is that? I'm in SoCal so I don't really have to worry about mud, but they're still there for a reason so I don't know if I should remove them.

I did a search but found nothing really specific. I'm driving a 96 LX 4door. I was thinking of replacing the control arms, but I will need new shocks for that, won't I? Any advice is appreciated.

Wow there is a post on this right above.

Disregard moving the guards. What else can I do?

uhmmm, raise the car up a bit so it doesn't rub. Trust me, if you pull 'em out you'll be sorry.

I'm riding on the stock suspension, which feels a little mushy. If I got some new shocks and springs, would that help out if I set them stiff?

I took out the splash gaurds in the front wheel wells and after a year everything in the engine bay got like ten times dirtier. Rocks and pebbles get all over the place and theres a space kind of between the car and the door that rocks get trapped into too so it gets kind off rattly.

You could slightly adjust the splash guards maybe that would help?

Maybe by pushing them up a little more... thats what i did with mine

Exactly!! My right wheelwell guard fell off on the highway once. After driving over fresh tar which got all over my engine bay and behind my fender. I went back and picked it up. took a month to totally clean the **** out. Keep them in there and roll the fenders just a little bit. The wheelwell guards will automatically raise along with the fenders.

And no, you wouldn't have to get new shocks if you're replacing your upper or lower control arms. But that won't help anything but camber.

thats odd that they rub, I have 16's with 205/40's but its also dropped 2 1/2 inches with no rubb. stiffer springs wouldn't be that pricey, but your ride would be rougher.

Thanks dogfood, I think I'll order up some new springs. I'm kind of on a budget, but it rubs too much when other people are in the car. I live in a hilly area so I kind of need to address this.
