Default 2004 TL refuelling problems

I have a new TL & when refueling, the nozzle clicks off around 12.5 gallons. The amber low fuel indicator is on & the computer says I have 20 miles before I'm out of gas. I can sit there & put 10 cents in at a time & I finally give up when I get to 14 gallons or so. The manual says it could be a fuel vapor recovery system problem but the dealer disagrees. Since I'm getting 22 MPG (computer info) I should be refilling around 350 miles, not 280 like I am now. It has a 17.1 gallon tank.

Does anyone know what is going on? How much gas is left when the low fuel indicator light comes on? The manual does not give me this info.

GREAT CAR though!

From what I've learned at Honda/Acura over the past 4-years or so....Most of the vehicle have about 2.5 gallons left. Most of the Accords have like 2.2 gallons left when the light comes on.

I'll try and get more info on it.

The new TL has 3 gallons left in the tank when the light comes on and HID states "ZERO miles to empty". Pretty stupid, huh? Essentially Honda doesn't want any exposure to law suits of people running out of fuel so it set up the 2004's so that they could go "NEARLY 100MILES" (on the intersate) before "actually" running out of gas. Kinda like a "cry wolf" thing. The set it up this way and pretty soon people will start ignoring it when they KNOW they've still got 3 gallons yet to go. IMHO, this is stupid!

my 92 legend has a little more than 4 gallons left of the 18.1 gallon tank when the gas light comes on.

run your car until 300+ miles then refuel, see if that helps anything

Thanks for the info. I have a call into Acura to see how many gallons are left when the indicator lamp comes on. Sounds like it's not a vapor recovery problem. I'd hate to push it & run out of gas though!!

I have not experienced any fueling problems with my 04 TL. I actually like the idea of the gas light coming on earlier, as opposed to later
Greg - who is wondering if you got the auto, as I am averaging 19 mpg in my 6 speed. But then again, I am sure my lead foot isn't helping the gas mileage

Yes, I did get the automatic. I tend to have a lead foot too, so it's surprising you are only getting 19 MPG.

I still haven't heard back from my Acura Dealer....

I'm averaging 22MPG in my 6-speed and I wring it out quite a bit.
