Default my e-brake on driverside sticks at cold weather!

my ek's e-brake on the driver's side sticks at cold weather. what could be causing this? one day i didnt know it was engaged and drove for 7 miles scraping the tire. thank god i was driving on snow instead of bare pavement. but i would like to get this fixed. anyone else have this problem with their ek?
