Got my turbo done today...But somethin is slowing it down, i think it is my crower cams??
I got my car and everything done from my drag III kit and i am boosting at 8 pounds. Before i got the turbo i had 6403 cams installed and they are pretty wild cams. But i got my car back and it pulls hard and its a lot faster BUT it is not as quik as it should. To test it out i had the oppurtunity to race a black 00 type R tonight and i beat it by about 3 cars the car is aroudn the block from me and it has i/h/e, and i thought i should of been faster and thani raced a wrx with intake and it pulled a car on me, wtf. So with me being all mixed up with this i asked my friend with a 92 lx 5.0 with gears , i/h/ and full exhuast to race, who beat my friend who got a 14.7 by about a car or two, and i ran dead even with him. I know its faster than what it was but i know for sure it should be quiker. That menas that right now im around 14.5, its not right. Also i just found out that 1 of my o2 sensors is shot so maybe that could be slowing it down. But most people are telling me its my cams that are screwing me up. Right no my cam gear settings are at +4 exhuast and +2 intake, trying to figure out the best spots to make up for the cams. those are the two problems i have, what can it be and would it slow my car down significantly?
And those races were spread out through out the day, my car had its rests and was gettin used to the turbo timer. It did feel greating beating the type R though, just the fact that i saw the type R next to me so pretty and me just going right past it, damn i love my turbo even though its not all right.

setting your cam gears like that without going to a dyno first is just plain stupid. I don't care if someone you know tells you that's the right setup, with wild cams and turbo, always go to a dyno before you start changing settings around. get those back to stock if you value your motor. Also which o2 sensor is broke, the first one or the second? Your probably running way rich because of that...
my car needs more power than what a dyno will give it. Will the cams take away that much power from the turbo? Beucase i should be easily beaiing a stock wrx that gets 14.4. I know i need to put it on a dyno but its a lot slower than what it should and i want to know if its from the cams, being in open loop mode becuase my o2 sensor is shot, or is it something else ?

incase you dont already know this, Agressive aftermarket cams have over lap, which actualy makes it where at one pont your intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time (given you a rough idel.. or other words.. you are cammin yO)... with a FI car.. that the LAST thing you want... set the gears to stock and try to tune our the overlap... or replace the NA cams for some nice FI cams... or sell them and use your stock cams
Absolutely true.
The 403's have WAY too much overlap for FI.

Sell the cams and buy a couple tanks of gas or put it towards something useful.
I know crower makes a turbo cam, but its all depends on you.
at WOT the o2 sensor doesn't affect AF ratio.

1. Sell those cams and replace them with the oem ones. For a FI setup the oem are pretty tough to beat.
2. Get your car on a dyno to TUNE it. You already suspect that its produced sub-par power so thats no big surprise. But the whole purpose is to get it on the dyno so you can tune the fuel delivery, ignition timing, cam gear settings for more power. People think they can just slap a turbo kit on their car drive it of the garage in perfect tune......not gonna happen. You already invested $2800+ for your setup, spend an extra 100-200 bucks and get it tuned so you get the most out of your setup.

yea. . gewt some oem or FI cams. . . "wild" cams for n/a arnt meant to be used with a turbo, you should have laeerned that before you purchased your turbo kit. i see it all the time around here on HT
That exhaust cam gear set at +4 is killing you. It is bleeding off alot of the extra air that your turbo is pushing in - prior to combustion. Like eveyone is saying those wild NA cams are a problem due to their overlap- but with your cam gears you can minimize the effect. Set those cam gears to 0 for the time being till you get on a dyno. If you can find some stock cams for cheap, grab em, but I think that you could be satisfied without buying new cams- just get the proper tuning.

first off, I hope your supplying more fuel(fuel system) if your messing with the timing gears that much, if you want to get your car the best possible dyno is the answer, but you can get it close by doing some other stuff. whats hurting you in my opinion is that your running not enough fuel, your intake manifold and throttle body need some work,(porting)then see what happens, it will help considerably, dont take out your cams unless you really think its necessary, work on some other stuff.

hey, it looks like he got the problem solved too! his sig says he got into the 13s
oh and i think you should get some gsr cams instead of your na cams, it will def. help you out! lol
