Default tried doing my 1st launch in my crx...is this wheel hop, bad mounts, what???

ok so i tried to do my first couple launches since i finished up the swap yesterday and here is what happened. well 1st time i launched like at 2krpm and it felt like wheel hop but then it seems to me like my engine was moving "up and down"...kind of hard to explain but yea, i'm pretty sure i put the mounts in right so i'm not sure. could it be that i have 185\70\14 steelie on the left front and a
185\65\14 steelie on the right front, or would that not matter? anyways...the second launch i did it at 3krpm and the tires just spun them up pretty bad but no wheel hop or whatever it is. so yeah......is what i'm feeling wheel hop or maybe a mis-installed mount or bad mount or maybe the tires? to me its seems like the motor is vibrating ALOT...so yeah i don't know what it is. ok thanks guys for all the help

Lower your tire pressure.

FWD launching compared to RWD and AWD

get 2 tires that are the same size on the front!!!

not only are you not getting the torque proportioned to the wheels..it is most likely....that you smallest tire is the only one getting power if you are not running LSD...and you will end up wearing out you differential very quickly

ok i just got back from yet another attempt to launch and see whats this problem i'm having. well it seems when i launch the driver side is really shaking badly...i don't know if i installed the mounts wrong or didn't tighten them enough? or maybe its the different tire size causing it to shake? i mean i never had a problem like this before so i don't know whats causing it. hmm could there be a problem on how i bolted up the motor and tranny? first i did the side tranny mount, then the driver side...then rear and front last. how much are you suppose to tightened the mounts? oh yea one last thing...while driving and i was shifted from 2nd the 3rd, then i let off right away, as soon as i let off the gas i heard a bang noise as if the motor moved? and my friend riding with me said that near his foot(he's tall and his feet rest against the ecu cover) he could feel something bang back there...what could this be? ok THANKS guys for all the help...i've posted a lot and thanks for taking the time to help a fellow H-T'er.

pop your hood and rev it from the throttle body...how much does your engine move and what engine is it again?

what axles are you using???did you bend the cross member, when installed the engine? this is a b-series right?

you U-joint could be outa balance, or you could not have bent the lip on the rear cross member enough...also check the torque specs on the mounts

im using the HF axles. hmmm i don't think i even touched the cross member when i did the swap...but where exactly is it located? no this is a D-series swap btw. i don't think i tightened the rear mount enough i could only get to it with a puney wrench...could this be the cause?

how much do you have to rev it to get it to move and how much does it move?

Mine only moves about 1/2 inch when i rev it WOT for like .5 seconds.

hmm mine is a little less than 1\2 inch when i rev it on WOT for 1 second or less. hmmm when i push on the driver side mount i can move it front to rear by hand can you do this? is there suppose to be play like that? i can't move it a lot...very little but isn't it suppose to be really tight?

No way should you be able to move your drivers side mount at all. Is that rubber torn in there or what? It shouldn't move when bolted in unless the rubber is torn.

go to home depot and buy some polyurethane construction adhesive ($3) and fill it. Stuff is great and just as sturdy as 3m window weld...

you could do this temporarily untill you get inserts or just keep it. Many have success with it.

hmm what does a bad mount look like? haha cause i just pulled it off and there seem to be lots of little cracks everywhere inside the mount...not big ones and the mount isn't seperating...well not yet at least. all these little cracks seem to be from the old rubber just being old...isn't this normal?

Sounds like you need new mounts or new bushings for your stock mounts. As far as the wheel hop, you should replace the off sized tire. I suppose either one can be replaced. You need to match the tires. You will still probably have wheel hop on launch, but an aftermarket crossmember should cure this. Try these places for aftermarket bushings for your mounts.

hmmm i put on these crx si rims i had with same sized tires but they are pretty damn bald so instead of wheel hop it just spun up pretty bad so i'm not sure if my wheel hop is gone. i did notice however say i'm in first going around 2500rpm then i punch it...there is this knocking noise from the engine bay...i'm not sure if its the tranny making this noise but seems to be coming from the mounts or something. also...when i'm in first and i just hold the car steady it seems to want to jerk back and forth...not like its not getting fuel but has something to do with the tranny? has anyone ever experienced this?
