Icon2 Violent wheel hop during acceleration.

I was wondering if anyone has had the experience and what they're fixes were for some pretty bad wheel hop. So far I've noticed and replaced both driver and passenger torque dampers. They were both shot. It did help some but sometimes I feel as if my motor jumps around a lot even after these repairs.

sorry right now is a stock d16y7. 1996 civic ex body. Now I'm thinking maybe tires because I had recently placed 4 good same size tires on my car because they were free. However they are all different brands. Is that something thats possible, Has anyone had a wheel hop experience only from different brand tires?

Wheel hop occurs when trying to spin the tires...like during a launch or burnout. Yes, the type of tires can cause wheel hop.

Are you describing it correctly? A hop when spinning the tires (doing a burn out)?

check your mounts that's one of the bigger causes in this case a stock y7 is not very powerful with it's 106hp so like 80ish whp.

So if you are accelerating from 0-60 and the shaking of the car happens around 35-45 mph then its your axles. But yeah wheel hop occurs during a launch or burn out so make sure you explain it better.

Oh and whichever side its shaking is the axle you need to replace.

Uh, before you go swapping axles, you should get your tires balanced. You may have just thrown a weight.

Aaah, your right. He may be explaining it like a wheel hop but it could be that the new tires were never balance and are not the same rating.

Or the tires were balanced, and just threw a weight. It happens

Easiest way to see if that's the problem, though, is to rotate your tires. Front to back, back to front, and criss-cross. It's also free. If the vibration moves to the back, then you threw a weight.

This may not help with your wheel hop issue but what you have described here in the quote is detrimental to your pocket book if any accident occurs where I reside.

ICBC (our mandatory car insurer) will not cover any damages if the tires are not the same brand and type per axle. So you could have one brand/type of tires on the back and one brand/type on the front and be covered but as soon as you mix match on either the front set or the back set you essentially don't have insurance on your car.

You may want to find out if this might be the case with your insurance provider.

Yes only when I try to burn out. I dont do this anymore because of this. I dont want to break anything. I like my car too much.

Just so everyone involved in this post knows. Rear motor mount is the problem. Motor doesn't seem like it's slamming around in the engine bay.

I would still at least put matching tires on the front, I can understand tight money situations (the wonders of 'merica) but different tread designs on the same axle isn't very good for the drivetrain

your motor mounts are probably shot. At least one side is probably bad along with a completely torn rear mount.

fix those first then update
