'92 Acura Integra....Quick Question For You.
Just a quick question. Does a '92 Integra have, or not have the interference engine? A friend of mine was driving his last night and it died on him. It will turn, but not start. I am having it towed over this afternoon to take a look to try to help him out. I know a lot of the Legends don't have the interference engines, but I haven't messed with the Integra much. It sounds to me like either the T belt broke, or there is a fuel issue? What I am wondering is if the T belt cut loose, am I looking at having to throw on a head, or is this not an interference engine?
Thanks!
Thanks!
wth is an interference engine? in all the years I have been dealing with hondas have never heard of an interference engine. I had something similar happen but it was caused by a MSD ignition i had in the car. It was causing feed back that made my ECU freak out and shut the motor off to keep any damage from happening but it would start back up fine. pulled that out and it was fine. to me it almost sounds like an ignition problem. check in the distributor maybe get a new cap and rotor and gasket for it. and see what happens.
interference is when the valves open down into the cylinder, meaning the valve seat is always inside the cylinder, and it has potential of making contact with the piston.
Is this right??

I dont know if thats what you call it
but if is an LS the compression is low so the valves wont meet the
pistons 80% of the time..
best bet is the timming belt or the unfamous coil and igniter crap
that usually fails...
so check for spark first....

I was just gonna say, actually, i believe most honda motors are... b, h, d, and f (i think) all are

Interfearance engine: When the valves open at full lift they will be where the piston WOULD be at TDC. Consequently, if your timbing belt snaps and the timing is thrown off, the piston will _INTERFEAR_ with the valves and bend them. Hence why timing is so important on these engines.
You can check if he's fucked by checking the valve timing, I've never done it, but just by looking at the timing belt puly orientation you can tell if the belt has slipped.
Its propbably the ignitor or some bs like taht. Check for spark by unplugging one of the wires and putting it near a ground and cehcking for a spark when the car is cranked. If you dont have one....be happy, its not the timing belt :D

I have heard of more than just several B18a's losing their timing belts and not suffering any ill effects, so I don't think they were interference engines. The B18c's on GSR and on ITR are most definitely interference designs.

Well the b18a is interfearance. Happened to a buddy of mine about 2 months ago....his valves were toast.

Thanks for the answers gents. It was a combo FU of the ignighter (sp) and the coil taking a nap. The T belt had been done not long ago. The kid is back on the road, buring up gas like it's free.
good to hear. sounds like a lot of the g2's have been having the same problems recently. i just changed both parts like 2 weeks ago. not bad for an oem part to last 11 years!

When it happened to 2 close friends of mine, I was surprised as both of them just put on new belts and went on their merry way. Both were driving '90 GS -- I don't recall any running changes that were that significant. I'll try and get an update on them both...
Jet Black and Riceball777: Thanks for not jumping on my back...
My apologies in advance to the board readers if I gave out misleading info -- it's never my intention to do that...
