What type of engine is mine??

Hi Guys,

I m new here but I really know nothing about my car, jus wanna learn more. My Civic is made in '96 and it's a SOHC without Vtec, so is it a D series or where can I find out about it?? With the stock engine, what is the Max horsepower I can have??

if its none v-tec then i believe it is a D16Y7

not that much power so switch to a DOHC or get a D16Y8 like in the civic EX

Maybe 200-220whp with a turbo kit well tuned. Your really better off doing a motor swap if you wanna go fast. Dont waste money on the y7s.

How much would the turbo kit cost? Do I need to get lots of parts replaced to turbocharge it?

D16Y8 is SOHC VTEC. it practially bolts right into your car, all you need is the longblock, wiring harness, and ECU.

The sky is the limit! If your a DIY type of guy you could piece together a turbo kit for a few hundred bucks - or you could spend $1000s. Search around on the Forced injection forum. There is lots of good info.
