H22a - is the engine, 2.2 litre Vtec, 190bhp or JDM 200bhp. Found In preludes and JDM Euro Accords of the previous generation
VTEC - the mechanism that changes the sam profiles to a totally different profile. Most cars have one lump per cylinder for each camshaft. VTEC engines have 2 lumps, and one is low-cam, the othe is hicam. The standard Hicam switchpoint is 5500rpm, and the hicam engages more lift and advances ignition timing. Is controlled by oil pressure and a VTEC solenoid
Doble wishbone - used to describe the upper and lower crontrolling arms - a McPherson strut car does not have an upper shoshbone. For definition, look at any open wheel racecar - it has an upper and lower triangle from the body to the wheel front and back. They are double wishbone cars - eg, Formula One, CART, IRL, Formula Ford etc
DOHC and SOHC - Double overhead cam or single or head cams. An H22a is a DOHC engine. Cams engage the valves. Valves let in and let out exhaust gas. The timing of these vales opening and closing affects horsepower. This is controlled by the camshafts
Straight six - does not apply to hondas... BUT, a Straight six engine is a six cylinder engine all in a line, as opposed to a V6 (Chevy) or a BOXER (porsche) six. Various companies use straight sixes. Toyota, and BMW and the most popular, RB series Nissan engines found in Skylines.

Well since you are just starting here is a great web page that will give you the basics of most things. It is not going to go into great detail by and means but it will be enough so you will understand the basics. Also pick up some of the names for different parts.

hey thank you alot for that info , you know your S*#t real well man. Another question i had if you dont mind, is the h22a the best performance engine you can have for a 4th generation prelude? and what is the engine that would be stock in a '96?
ok mattcook my walking bible of prelude knowledge, i also wanted to know if you can tell me the significance of
1)compression ratio
2) is multi-port fuel injection superior to electronic fuel injection?
3)whats the difference between DOHC and variable timing DOHC?
again thanks for helping this newb!
