Effects of drving w/ no back pressure (open header)
Is this in anyway harmful to an engine? Besides the fact of torque loss at low rpms, can it damage or wear anything?
.....lol, somebody posted my other thread? haha
well, the only thing harmful is to your eardrums. Get used to wearing ear plugs and not listening to the radio...
"It's not a date car anymore." - Eric (NAB20C5), when I first started running open header.

No problems here. I ran an open header at each race last year. I ran a full exhaust all this year. Car seems to use more fuel with the open header.
Most say it idles, when with open header, like Marilyn Manson's "Beautiful People." I do know about you guys, but I like it.

The less backpressure the more torque and hp. The only time backpressure is needed is when you are running a long exhaust like you would on a normal automobile. The reason backpressure is needed is to maintain the nessecary heat that will allow the exhaust to speed out of the longer exhaust found on most cars.
i tried it in my r, , low end pulls harder, but you will lose in the high end , plus it brought down my top speed and times by a little, basically i lost power.
I heard from somewhere that you can burn your exhuast valves.....is this true?
.....if you ran with an open head.
But not if you're simply running an open header.
And to the other guy: how do you figure you lost whp up top?
