Default Refinishing ITR USDM wheels...

Since my ITR gunmetal wheels are friggin beat (curb rash, damaged lip, etc), I decided to refinish them. Started on saturday - hopefully will finish sometime this week...

OEM gunmetal grey

chemical burn

peeling paint

we-todd-did salute

macros

I was originally going to repaint them either black or bronze, but after seeing the beautiful machined finish under the paint, I think I'm going to just clean em up a bit, and put a bunch of coats of high - temp clear coat... I think they look kinda like NSX wheels (only smaller).

I used the liquid stuff in a can. The aerosol isn't strong enough. Just buy a can of the liquid "Aircraft" stripper, and put it on with a brush. You have to let it soak for like 45 mins, then take it off with steel wool. Then rinse (I used wheel cleaner). Multiple applications are probably necessary - like I said, I'm not done yet...

The Honda primer is a bitch to remove, I had to use a bunch of the stripper to get it off.

nice

for the primer that gets stuck in the "grooves" you can use a nice soft wire brush and it comes right out. Aircraft stripper is the ****, and it burns like hell if you get it on your skin lol the best part is if you can get all the primer out, the finish is very nice and you really dont have to do anything further to make the rim look nice. Maybe some kinda protectant or clear coat and yer good to go.

Funny thing was I ran a search for the can pic, and I found the pic of the ITR wheel from this thread. Anyways, use the can, not the big container and DO NOT get any on your soft skin, it burns like mad, and causes cancer. Happy destruction.

Those are gonna be nice, keep us updated.

Just wondering what are you gonna do w/ the centercaps? I'd assume the aircraft stripper would melt them

when I had my ITR wheel for my CRX I was planning on stipping them and going with the polish look I also wanted some polish center caps. I found out afterwords after everything was sold that S2000 Center caps fit just fine and are factory polish and even have that 'H' so they look JDM lol.

pic of s2k center cap:
