Default OT: That settles it, I'm getting an SE-R Spec V. But, I haven't lost my mind...

Well, after giving it much thought. I have decided to sell the del Sol to a private party, rather than attempt trading it in to the Nissan dealer who will insult and rob me.
The car is currently for sale and I'm entertaining offers. Since my Sol is full show/race ready car. I can not drive it daily due to fear of theft. And riding around in my $800 Rabbit is getting old.

So once the Rabbit and del Sol are gone (next 3-4 weeks or so) I'm gonna go buy a loaded SE-R Spec V. I spoke with a lady at *** Nissan today and she said that there were two Spec V's inbound for late October delivery MSRP $19,201. One blue and one black. Both with optional Rockford Fosgate stereo and all the Spec V goodies (6 gears, 17 inch rubber, etc.). So, as I said in the title of this post, I haven't lost my mind. The ITR is STAYING nice & cozy in my garage with no plans of ever getting rid of it. But I'm in dyre need of a quick, economical, relaible daily driver and the Spec V seems to fit the bill. Once I get it, I'll post it up. Peace to all.

Let us know when you get to drive both... I would be interested to hear the different in dynamics between the two...

Obviously, the ITR will be faster in a straight line but there have been indications that the SE-R is comparable in handling... I'd be interested in a first hand account!

I would like to see how much faster in the straight line the R will be. I cant wait for these things to come out and start getting some feedback on them.

As it stands right now. The pre-production Spec V that Car & Driver tested this month. Posted acceleration numbers right on par with a '94-'01 Integra GSR. Which by no means makes the track-ready 4 door a slouch. 180 ft lbs of torque available on demand should make for interesting stoplight confrontations between VTEC cars and the spec V. (0-60 in 7.2, 1/4 ,15.7 @ 91 mph, and 130 mph drag limited top speed). Once the aftermarket releases a few power producing bolt on's I'm sure the Spec V will get all the respect it deserves. Lest we forget the '91 SE-R posted almost identical acceleration numbers but weighed 300 lbs less than the new Spec V.

Yup, 6 spd with helical LSD! 175hp @ 6000 rpms & 180 tq @ 3500. Enough corner exit prowess to be a real threat to the ITR in auto X circles and showroom stock.

That's going to be killer torque steer - but who cares. It's going to be a fun car

I expect a full driver's report/impression when you get the car!!

What color are you getting?

I'm shooting for blue or silver. But as long as its not yellow I can live with red or black (subject to availability). I'm going for stealth, not flashyness. But rest assured, once I get my paws on one I'll do a full report!

BTW, these are the available colors: Red, Black, Blue, Silver, & Yellow. All have "Lava" charcoal inetrior with accents the same color as the cars exterior.

.....why not get a used itr and do an ls conversion with some stealthy millenia wheels (w/ center caps) and remove wing and badges?

Kinda keep it in the R family, y'know?

Why not spend a few more grand and get a WRX? It may not look too good but for the price nothing else out now touches it. The spec V is a nice car but I thought it would perform way better than it did on that test. Maybe the non pre-production model will do better.

A stealthy R would be nice. But here in NYC there would be no getting away with that. Honda/Acura cars get stolen WAY TOO MUCH in this area to even consider buying another Honda product. Even RSX Type S's are disappearing in my area.

I cant see paying $24k for a WRX for two reasons: 1. hate the looks of it (ugly IMHO) 2. Spec V is $5k cheaper and more my style (FWD, inline 4 cyl, n/a, helical LSD, etc.)

H-PIMP,

good choice, but I think that the Spec-Vs will start to suffer the same fate as the B-series - ie. stolen and cannibalized to make someone's Sentra GXE a cooler car. be careful man.

You may be right. But I hope that is not the case. Either way I still plan on using it daily. And hope it isnt as attractive to crooks as the ITR is.

Why not join me and get the IS300. Just playin! The Spec V will be sick and I better get a ride in it as soon as you get it . The intake should go in this weekend so the IS has a little more *****. Talk to you this weekend.

Yeah, I just put R all back to stock and took it in for some warranty work. So once it back I may give autox a whack to see how I do with my car bone-stock. And if I like it, I'll most likely get a little more involved when I get the Sentra.
