Default Look what I did :(

Broke the top of this rod off on my vavle cover. (h23)

Is there anything I should do about it at the moment? I figure i'll be fine since i have the 4 corners snuggin it down still.

Sucks. Where you using a torque wrench? Looks like you went a bit to far. I would find a way to patch that up till you get a new one, use some liquid gasket or some high temp tape or something? A little Oil might start comming out. Also i would keep my eye on the sparkplug chambers and make sure no oil goes in em.

That is actually a common thing to do; Over tightening the bolts.

did that about 4 time on 4 different bolts while doing my head gasket on my legend. You have to take off the vavle cover and unscrew the stud. Go to a dealership they'll give you a new one for about 5 dollars.

Gotta justify gettin a new motor somehow!

Just go to a parts store, get two open-ended nuts to fit on that stud, screw them both onto the stud, and start undoing it w/ the bottom nut. The top nut will lock it in place, bringing up the stud. Then slap in a new stud, and only tighten it down lightly next time!

part of the stud should still be sticking out the head after you take off the valve cover

shouldnt be too hard

i've done this twice so far, both times with a torque wrench. after it broke i ordered the new stud online (cheaper) and used hi temp rtv to seal the hole. it worked but be sure to check the rtv periodically, if the seal fails it can make a nice little mess.

Bummer, I see a torque wrench wasn't a solution either....
