good luck getting a test drive on a bike man, i've never heard of one person who was able to test drive their bikes....then again most poeple are buying 1-2 year old bikes....it might be differnt for bikes 8-10 years old cause noone cares if they get put down....

yea i was told most dealers will not let you test drive a bike no matter what..but im sure a private seller would even if its only up and down the street to make sure everything works..if not its not really a problem

as a private seller, my policy is leave the full amount i am asking for the bike with me, and if you bring my bike back unharmed, you get your money back.

The right thing to do is require a deposit that is enough to cover your insurance deductible in case it gets totalled.

Asking for the full amount to cover a test ride is ridiculous, and if the bike is not insured than you are a ******* idiot.

What would happen if I took it for a test ride and I wrecked it due to a mechanical failure? How about I ask you for $100,000 to cover the cost of my life should your bike break?

Cheers,
Sean

And dealers will let you take a bike for a ride as long as you have a valid license.

If the dealer says no, then they don't trust you. Wear nicer clothes, act responsibly and they won't have a problem with it. If they require a deposit than that is only fair (it's to cover their insurance deductible).

Cheers,
Sean

Cycle World (Dealer in NJ) lets you ride their bikes as long as you are a serious buyer. They have insurance on the bikes for a reason.
