dont wanna discuss the details of what happened but i need a new rod cap and i know you cant mix and match rod caps... so im going to need a new rod... will this throw the balance off in the motor? if it helps any the rod has the ink marked as "25" also the color came off on the bearing i remember them being a green bearing is this correct? If it helps at all on the block its in a 2001 ITR

it "might" throw off the balance if you mix and match rods from diffent bottom ends. the B18C5 bottom end is balanced all togeather as a whole when assembled.

how about buying a set of eagle rods?

Or a set of Probe rods, their inexpensive, strong, and actually a good bit lighter than stock.

technically....

rods should be balanced
pistons should be balanced
crank should be balanced

but....

many have put one new rod and piston in an engine without rebalancing the whole assembly...

i would think you'd be safe....but.....if it were my engine....

nah, no short cuts except for maybe not balancing the crank

blah, just get the same factory rod that was in your motor

buy 1 ITR rod from the dearship

its like a 100 bucks

it will weigh the same as your other rod

and no honda does not balance each rod to each piston and then balance the crank counterweights to the rod/piston... they just make the parts consistently the same weight

I'd balance the crank before anything else.

I find the above to be untrue in that as much as they try all the parts don't turn out to be the same weight. What the would do is group together sets of rods and pistons that weighed similar and use those components to put any particular motor together!

i didnt know honda built their engines that way, thats cool

I am now very curious to see the weight difference between rods.
