Default i think my 93vtec hates me :(

i noticed one of the screws holding down the valve cover was gone because there was some oil in my engine bay. when i rev, a little oil shoots out from the area where the screw should be. if i just put a screw back on there, think it will solve the problem? aaaaaaaaand, ever since i noticed that problem, my car has been sputtering a lot. in 1st, it feels like i'm not giving it enough gas and the whole car sorta shakes/sputters. same when i shift into 2nd. doesnt really do it in 3rd and on. on top of that, going through my gears while driving seems rough now. sometimes i cant even get into gears unless its like..4th gear....so i was wondering is this all because of the oil coming out or is it some big issue? thanks

You are losing compression thats why it feels underpowered and it will sputter. When your car is pissing oil its never a good thing. My suggestion to you would be to take off the cover. There is a sequence for tightening the bolts for the valve cover. Depending on how good the valve cover gasket looks you may be able to re use it. If not then you will have to buy another. Put your valve cover back on and use the proper tightening sequence. When I first tried putting on a honda valve cover i didnt use the sequence and two of the nuts froze on so I had to cut them off. Trust me you dont want to have to do that. Then once the cover is back on change your oil. Start that puppy up and you should be golden.

If your engine is pissing out oil it may have gotten into the bell housing or your transmission. This is a bad thing. If the oil mixes with the tranny oil you could be in for trouble. I would also suggest changing your tranny fluid and filter if the problem persists.

But of course. However the same friction modifiers are not in the motor oil. This is why they make two different bottles of oil and call it either automatic transmission fluid or manual fluid. The motor oil would probably wouldnt do a whole lot at first but over time if there was a lot of oil it could cause the viscosity of the tranny oil to break down much quicker. Thats just what I learned in school.

lots of people run motor oil in their manual trannies. and i dont think this guy is running an automatic. no need for the filter. modifiers not applicable with honda transaxles unless he's running a clutchtype lsd.

Holy ish people, it was a simple question and it still got screwed up!

Just replace the nut that's missing from the valve cover and the oil problem will be gone. Just clean up the engine bay and go on your way.

There is no way the motor oil mixed w/ the tranny fluid; even if it did, it wouldn't be that bad. No, the tranny fluid is NOT the exact same as motor oil. It is similar, and you can use motor oil in the tranny in a pinch, but the fluids are DIFFERENT.

If you didnt notice thats what I said to do. Wasnt exactly sure what he was running. And like I said I didnt think the oil would be the problem I said it was a very small possibility. I wasnt sure what he was running auto or manual. I simply said that because some companies use special tranny fluid that will break down when exposed to outside elements like oil. Just a tiny little thought dont even pay attention to it just replace the valve cover. hehe people get pretty uptight round here.
