I didn't find any reviews on the Khumo MX's so I was wondering which you'd prefer and why? Khumo Ectsa MX or the Falken Azenis Sports?
Size: 205/50/15
Use: Daily Driver/occasional track use
With that in mind, which would you prefer and why? I'm kind of leaning more towards the Azenis because of the stiffer side walls. But overall, they seem pretty comparable.
Thanks for the opinions!

mx would be more like s-03's.. sidewalls are stiffer with s03's but MX seem to have more grip... s03's lasted me a long time and hope to do the same with mx, but.. i highly recommend running wider wheels.. like 15x7 with these.

Here's a general question: Which is better for track use/spirited driving: stiffer side walls or softer side walls?
I dont have experience with either, but I have the same question. I was looking at both for dedicated track use.
What I've read is that MX's have equal grip to Azenis when warmed up. Apparently the hotter MX's get, the better they stick. I've heard the sidewall isn't stiff, on them though. With Azenis I've heard they get greasy when hot, but other than that people seem to like them. I think both are going to be good tires for the money, I think I'm going with Azenis.

i don't have experience with azenis to give a comparison.. just s03's and mx.. but as mentioned before, whichever one you choose, you'll get stiffer sidewalls with wider wheels.

I bought a set of MX's, but haven't gotten them to the track yet. I haven't had them long, but they're better on the street than the Azenis were. The downside is the additional cost. I bought them over the Azenis solely because I wanted to try something different and didn't want to pay for S03's.

I had both and for Street use I like the MXs better. They are a tad softer when hitting bumps and don't track (the grooves) as much on the highways.
As for rain.... well, the MXs are better.
And on the track I had complete confidence in both but the MXs seems to like the heat a bit more and did not get the slippery feeling like the Azenis did after many hard laps.
I had both tires on 15x6.5 rims to make the comparision fair.

I have both, MX DEFINTELY better for street use. I have not really tracked the MX but I from what I have heard talking to Natl level Autoxers the MX definitey has the edge over the Azenis when hot. MX get better and better with more heat, whereas the Azenis get greasy fairly quickly when hot. Here in Atl virtually everyone cools down their Azenis between runs. I can only imagine track time would exaggerate this difference.

So with the concern of the MX's softer side wall, what pressures should one start with for track use and then for street use? ...just as a general guidleline.
Thanks to JeffS's link I am leaning towards the MX's a bit more.
And thanks to everyone so far for their exeriences and opinions.

I ordered 205 MX's for my stock rims and will have them installed later this week. I'll have a review and pics, as ive been curious to these tires performance for a long time now.
It sounds like the sidewall is the only negative thing about the MX's. What factor will the weaker sidewall play in HPDE's? I'm guessing it would just mean a little slower turn-in...
i have the azenis... and i can't complain... i have used them in one track event and they did great
as for street use they do fine also.... they are fine in the rain as long as you don't drive like a maniac
not to mention they are cheap also.... so easily replaceble

Exactly my thoughts. Everyone had me convinced that Azenis + Rain = Death
Definately not the case. I was caught in some serious downpours last night without a problem. I've yet to track my car (Drag or Hpde) w/ the Azenis just yet but I should be hitting the strip in a week or two and will give a review then.

Mods, can we please create a Tire Forum...
Multiple times per day, the same Azenis vs <insert competitor tire name> comes up. Seems like a dedicate forum for tire questions could save a lot of duplicate posts.

I would not say its a weakness but would call it more forgiving.
And no I did not think it had less turn in, Infact the Azenis on the 6inch rim had less turn in then the MXs on a 6.5 rim but playing fair the Azenis on a 6.5 rim were just a good as the MXs- Just the heat thing was/ is a concern for me.
I had more slide coming from the front with the azenis at temp then the MX...

My MX's like to plow when you inflate them past 36psi cold. 205/50R-15
I hadn't gotten around to bleeding them when the weather warmed up and going into a roundabout moderately hot, the car felt really pushy, like it didn't wanna turn onto its side and squat.
The car felt unsure and seemed it like didn't want to turn, I got off the gas a little to slow down, tried to turn into the circle, but it just pushed until the back end came out. I braked and steered into the skid until I was at a near stop.
I checked the pressures later and they were 37psi F and 39psi R.
They also like to roll the sidewalls about an inch off the tread on some auto-x courses. I tried inflating them to keep them off the sidewalls, but it just wanted to push more. Maybe I just need to lower the car more and run more camber to compensate.

Are you sure its the tires causing the push? What suspension do you have?

that is exactly correct. i ude azenis (for autocross) because they are cheaper and the grip comes up quicker than mx. the mx would probably be a better daily tire as well. i think it would wear longer and be better in standing water. but i use non-performance tires on street because what do i need tons of grip for driving to work.
sidewall stiffness-wither way is fine for the steet. maybe if you had a large rim with low profile sidewall, a stiffer sidewall may keep your lips from getting bent.

That's the problem. Azenis plow terribly with that setup too!

Have never used the Kumho MX tires, however, I ran Falken Azenis all last season and I was very impressed!! I have run them on the street and track numerous times,(7 autox, about 15K daily driven miles, and 1 track day at Carlisle last year around the mini course road course they had set up
)
The only thing you have to worry about the Azenis is standing water like any other tire.

No they don't.
I have a ton of oversteer on command, and I used them at 38f/38r hot at the track.
I never had that problem around town either, regardless of pressure.
My problem with falkens is that they overheat quickly on the track. You have to let up a bit to let them cool off, then they just heat up again and get overly greasy.
