do these compression numbers for 9:1 sound right?
i just finished my break in period and completed a compression test. numbers are:
180 180 185 180
checked each one 3 times and numbers were the same each time. i did this becasue i noticed i am losing oil somwhere and i am hoping its because im running shitty 5w-30 oil and its just burning away...
how do these numbers sound?

really? man that really bothers me that my numbers are low compared to what it shouodl be? before i changed pistons and rods my compression was 210 accros teh board and i read up a lot and a lot of people were getting between 160 accorss the board to 180 accross the board. i thought since i had 180 all teh way across that was great. but if 200 is what its supposed to be at for 9:1 compression then i feel as if i didnt do something right even though they are consistant with each other it still bothers me

where did i say i had a b16 head?? this is a b18c1 block and a gsr gead p72.....

My b16a2 stock bore 8.8:1cr pistons pull 180-185psi across the board! With the stock pistons, I think compression was 10.2:1 was 235-240psi acorss the board!

Nextelbuddy, some people compression test with 5 cranks. Other's crank the motor more and get higher results. You will always see people with different compression numbers on
H-T. Some people do the test right and others don't. 180-185 are good numbers for your setup.

really? thats good to know i did my compressio test with only 5 cranks per cylinder.... thats what i was told and thats howi did it.. i didnt want to crank any more becasue i thought that more than 5 cranks would give higher ( false) readings than what i really had and i wanted to know the truth lol. thanx man

That's correct. If you keep cranking it, it will eventually max out. However, you will see a difference in readings from 5 puffs(cranks) to 10 puffs. I've seen this plenty of times.

im not too wqorried about it. its probably the shitty thin non synthetic 5w-30 oil im using right now. its not cuz of my rings apparent from my compression test. and its not my head gasket because my coolant is perfect no oil in it i know i been checking it for over a week now lol

Did you do a leakdown?

Did you do a leakdown?
Compression #'s sound good. As for oil consumption, it could alot of things from your turbo return line to your valve seals.
i just finished my break in period too and my setup is this
b18a stock sleeves with endyn 9:1 piston and eagle rods with b16 head
compression test 175 all across the board
leakdown test 2-3% all across the board

what if it's a stock b16 engine with 9:1 or 9.5:1, what will be the usual #s? thanks.

cold motor should pull lower numbers
cold motor should pull lower numbers
um are you sure because when i did a compression on my stock b18c1 motor i got 210 all teh way across on warm motor and when i did it again on a cold motor i got 230 so i dont think thats right
i do 5 secs on each cyl , seems to get the hit the max on all of them , it seems about right though. no worries. mines like 9:1-9.3:1 somewhere in there and mine are 200 straight across. no variation at all or not enuff to see. id say yours is normal though
