De-winterizing your bike
It has been brought to my attention that it is no longer winter for 99% of us. Therefore this is the short and quick of de-winterizing. For those of you who have year-round riding seasons, go play a quick game of "hide and go **** yourself" while the rest of us catch up.
Finish whatever maintenance plan you had. Basically don't start the bike dry or w/o an oil filter. Stupid I know, but it happens so check. New plugs are nice too. Check the coolant and brake fluid.
If you pulled your carbs, put em back
Check your tires for signs of dry rot, wear and proper cold pressure.
Check all cables and levers for free movement and proper function. Pay special attention to the throttle.
Now is a good time for new brake fluid and a little lube for the cables and joints. Leave the chain for later.
Clear the tailpipe, airbox and anything else you may have stuffed.
Check the battery over and install.
Siphon off some fuel if you want and top it off w/ fresh fuel or just do nothing.
Take a big step back and look everything over. Missing a seat? Lines hanging off?
Open the fuel petcock.
Key up and go through your usual cold start procedure. Mad choke for carb'd guys. Hope she fires up and remember to keep the clutch in, neutral lights lie.
Warm her up until she's idling steady and low, take a slow trip down the street and back. Remember the brakes may bind, need to be pumped up or simply not work. Note anything that doesn't seem right. Also don't forget about the disc lock
Park and properly lube the chain which should now be warm. Remember to turn the bike off first. Once again stupid but who's stupid when the gearshift get's bumped and you drop your bike 20 minutes into the riding season
Adjust anything that's not quite right and burn off the whole tank of gas one way or another.
Fill her up and hit up the crew, it's time to give those farmers something to shake their fists at again

45 degrees is my cutoff temp.
Even then after my 45-60 minute commute I am cold as hell even with my vent holes taped over on my helmet. If I had a face mask I would be fine though, I definitely need to get one. Anyone know of an electric chin warmer?

YEAAHHH no more snow here, they started sweeping the roads this week, to bad i don't have a bike anymore....sooon though soon, and at the rate i get jelous everytime a bike goes by it will be sooner than later..
One benefit of having to winterize your bike is that we also pay lower insurance, atleast I'm pretty sure we do, I live in Iowa, 32 with no current stuff on my record and I pay about $20 a month full coveage on a 2002 F4i.
the bike i just bought has been sitting for about a year and it runs but only with the choke on a little. does anyone know what needs to be done to get it running right.
