Hey D, I know they cost more, but if the 4.785 is on backorder you might wanna look into a ATS 4.93 or a Kaaz or Cusco FD.
Little bit of coin tho..

yeah, everyone keeps suggesting ATS.... i'm on a bit of a budget here... and i'm already gonna shoot that to hell... trying to keep deficit spending to a minimum. 4.93 for street.... hrm... who gives a **** about gas mileage anyway eh?
Jack... looks like i'm going with Toda street disc... and, why the **** not, may as well get the Toda flywheel while i'm at it. No vagasil here... just wish i had more $. BTW - no ******* autozone, discount auto or any of those ******* have the clutch alignment tool here in orlando... grrrr, cmon, it's just a fuggin piece of plastic...
I'm thinking about replacing 1 and 2 synchro while i'm in there.... Mike, would you happen to ahve a price on those guys? i'll give a ring if i get a chance...

Go D, its your bday.. Go D, its your Bday, haha..
I'd rather be broke and have a fast car anyday.
Anyone know if a JDM fd will work with a S21 tranny? (del sol-same gears as Type R) Also will a Type R lsd work in that tranny? I'll be needing a lsd in a few weeks. thanks

I know of someone that has one for sale. It's only been used for like 2000 miles and is in perfect condition. He sold his R so we took it out. Here's a shot of it.....

His name is Nick (Neek) on this board. Here's his e-mail: neek@aracnet.com . I don't know what he's asking, but make him an offer. He's pretty reasonable. Good luck.

It's not real hard, just time consuming. You need basic tools as well as a few special tools, like bearing pullers and such. If you can do a clutch, I would say that with a Helms manual, you could tackle the tranny. You definitely need to be mechanically inclined and this is not the job for a novice mechanic. Just a tip......when you have it open replace ALL of the bearings. This is what you'll be getting into.....

Did you need a press or anything to press the gears on like the manual says? Also did you need a puller to pull the gears of the main shaft (agian like the manual says). Also I don't think you need to replace the bearings unless you have 40k or more miles on the tranny. I'm going to do the fd swap soon on my R, and I dont think i'll be replacing the bearings seeing as i only have 6k miles on it.
I'd like to try over the winter. It will be the most challenging of anything I've done so far, but I got a helms and a semi-functioning brain. What are the prices for everything?
$450 JDM FD, JDM 1st gear, and ?
How much for a 3-4 synchro
How much for gears? (I might get a new 3rd gear)
How much for bearings?
How much are the special tools needed?
Is there any other little things that get replaced during the job (gaskets, washers, etc.)?
Sorry I don't have my helms w/ me.
