92-93 lude si motor crank question
need to know if the h-23 has a steel crank need to know please help found a motor that has spun a rod bearing and need to know if i can turn it if so i can rebuild that motor
Spinning main bearings is caused by lack of oil which leads to the crank area touching the main bearing. When they touch, it torques the bearing. To what degree depends on how little oil there was and how fast the crank was spinning.
When a main bearing spins, it also cuts into the jounal where it sits. Depending on how much metal is sheered away, a machine shop might be able to bore out all the main journals if you supply them with oversized bearings.
Now the crank is a different story. You can turn the crank, but you can't take off too much. Remember, it all has the fit back together and remain in spec.
Also, you can spin one bearing and not the others.
Bottomline; It all despends on how severely the crank torqued the main bearing.

If you spun a bearing, i would recommend just buying a new crank. Having it turned will more than likely cause the bearing sizes to be out of spec. I have one for sale.

I wouldnt get an accord crank. People think that all honda parts are the same. If so they would all make the same power. Never shorthand yourself when it comes to buying parts...and never use accord parts on a prelude. Prelude parts are make for preludes, accords for accords. I will make you a good deal on the crank..make and offer and we will talk. I can get you pics this weekend. It has roughly 130,000 miles on it. It is out of a 92 si. The block has already been sold. However i know where one is that i can hook you up with for cheap if you are interested. I will have to talk to my friend bout that one.

When a car company uses the EXACT same parts between other motors, it doesn't matter which one you use; they aren't different just b/c one's in a Prelude and one's in an Accord; Honda made them the exact same to cut costs.
I would actually bet that an Accord crank would be better since they were bought as economy cars, while Preludes have a greater tendency to be dogged on.
