Default stock tach accuracy.

a major problem with the dc2 and EK models was that the stock tach being very inaccurate at higher RPMs.

for instance, a 9500 indicated on the tach was an actual ~8400

do the new dc5/ep3's also have this trait? i noticed in a lot of videos i see in cabin the owners are not shifting beyond a indicated redline.

It's not that bad in the EP3. At exactly 7000 it's actually 6800.

It's not the greatest up top. People who redline with hondata in a type S(redline should be 8600 with hondata) have seen it get up to lke 8800.

Seems like the higher it goes the less accurate it becomes.
At 8100 on the tach, its actually 7700.
Someday, someone can tell you what its really at when it hits 9500rpm.

with my toda kit, the tach will go past the 9k before it bounces off the limiter. IF the tach numbers kept goin, it'd probably read like 9200rpm

I've never heard of a stock Honda tachometer being off by that much. That's some horrible exaggeration.

The normal variance is around 200-300 RPM.

That does make me wonder, I had a downshift that was a little to tall for the speed. Thankfully I was at @80 or so, I don't recall and downshifted into fourth...then went into third gear. Well when I did the tach went clearly to 8,400 rpms...Scared the absolute crap out of me(over-rev anyone) well the engine was fine but I was wondering why the ecu did not throw an engine over speed condition code. I was told that once I go past fuel cut it should code. Anyway...The 03 models do benefit from a single valve spring design...And I need more driving experience

If the tach is off that much in the higher rpms then maybe I didn't rev mine as high as I thought.

If you were at 80mph with the stock 205/55-16 tires, a downshift into 3rd would only spin the engine to 7200 RPM.

8400 RPM in 3rd is 93mph.

Thanks, I really didn't know the speed....I was on I-95 North in VA and traffic was going crazy fast...I was negotiating a hole with a soccer-mom in a Ford Explorer(POS)

Yeah... 3rd gear tops out just about exactly at 80 MPH so a downshift from 4th to 3rd would just top out third gear and maybe go slightly over.

I know that EP3 fuel cut is 7100 I believe and when my car hits fuel cut it is almost always just about at 7100. There are a couple times it has revved to 7500 and one time it said almost 8000 but that could have just been slight inaccuracy.

I would be it is pretty accurate.
