How to quiet exhaust w/o replacing muffler?

How to quiet exhaust w/o replacing muffler?
It's time to quiet my exhaust down. Here's me set-up (93 Cx / 98 GSR):
GSR headers to GSR piping to GSR catalytic converter -> custom 2.5" piping to Arospeed axle back.
What are my options besides adding a resonator? Will I loose any power?
A friend of my father's will do the welding when I buy the part and remove the exhaust system. Also, going to paint the muffler black while it's loose from the car

I really don't like how they look. I may use one though since everything will be painted. What about adding a resonator? Any that are 2.5" in/out and don't rob that much power?
