About to get my 1st bike...maybe...comments please!
Whats up everyone. I've been researching on bikes for a couple months now and I was looking at the R6/Zx-6r/GSXR-600/CBR600. I have no riding experience at all but I have many friends who ride who have said they'd teach me. I know most of you would say a 600cc bike is too much to start off with for a beginner but I consider myself a humble guy who would respect the bike and I'm not into risking my life just to show off. After searching around my area at the local motorcyle shops, I've came across a new 2003 Kawasaki Ninja Zx-6RR that has really caught my eye. The sticker price on the bike right now is $8400 but they sales guy said the price is highly negotiable because he's trying to make room for the 04's and this is the last 03 left. I've been thinking it over and I REALLY want this bike. I just got done paying off my car and credit cards(which i'm proud of cause i thought it would take forever) so this would be my only loan. Kawasaki is offering an incentive for 0down 4.99% interest on new bikes which sounds good to me from what i've researched. I could probably pay the bike off in less than a year. My questions for you guys is: In your unbias opinion is the ZX-6RR a good bike compared to the other bikes in the 600 class? Am I stupid for even thinking of getting a 600 for a first bike? Any good or bad comments about anything would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to make a big mistake...Thanks guys

Truthfully, i am a fan of kawi'. A 600cc is a pefect size to start on. I would just hesitate learning how to ride on a brand new bike! I would guess you could get a decent bike for about half that. 4.99% isnt the greatest interest rate ive seen. Learn to ride first, then go test drive a few bikes. Either way, get your protective gear first!
ok i have some few comments for you
i will start saying you should buy a used bike casue as soon as u take it of the lot it drops major value. And its better to buy a used one casue insurnace will be a tad bit lower. before you even get on ur bike make sure u have plenty of riding experince make sure if that. Buy a suzkie thay are the best ever (jut my own opnion) suzkie will eat everybike out there. i would buy there new 600 that just came out.
and i do have riding experince i had a 2003 gsxr 750 and it was a rocket but i totatled it out. there ******* KRAZY
pm if u want some more knowledge

thanks for the comments...I agree it isn't smart to learn on a brand new bike but I know a few people who have bought new bikes and learned without any problems so I'm hoping to do the same. I was thinking of maybe buying the bike now (as long as i can get a good price) and taking the MSF class in a few weeks before I really take it out on the road. I'm sure you guys know how it is when you find you find something you "just gotta have right now"..well i'm in love with this bike...Gotta figure out what to do!

Try doing a search. This has been covered quite a bit.
It comes down to this.
If you want to learn how to ride good and fast, get something like a Suzuki SV650!
If you want to be a squid that can ride fast in a straight line, then buy a new 600 or hell, just buy a 1K.
Most new 600's along with the Kawi 636 is just plain crazy to put a new rider on. Almost all have over 100hp, and are pretty damn fast. Most new riders can't handle the power and rush that come with the new 600's or above.
That is not to say that all who buy a new, fast bike crash them, but most do!
The SV is not a slow bike by any means, but it has a better power delivery to try to figure out how to ride fast!
Anyways, just a simple suggestion. Take it for what you think it's worth!

I love the look of the 636 and 6RR. If you really want to get it, don't let anybody stop you. If your responsible, and have respect for the bike, you could probably handle it. Just remember, it's not you that you have to worry about on the road, it's all the other ******** on the road. So I would have to say, get comfortable with the bikes controls and how it handles before going out on the road.

I say get your MC license (through the MSF course), get some gear (at least helmet, jacket & gloves), then start worrying about getting a bike...if you already have the above mentioned things then I would say go for it and take it easy, although when you drop that thing you are going to be hella disappointed since it was brand spanking new.

I work down in laguna niguel at mission motorsports and honestly the financing plans that kawasaki has right now is some of the best i've seen. most plays say 0.0.0. for 12 months but then it jumps to 17.99% after that. the kawi plan right now is 4.99% for 18 months and 6.99% after that, with a minimum payment of $49 a month if you finance less than 10k or $89/ month if financing over 10k.
i would say go with the ZX6R not the RR. RR has suspension set up for a track not so much the street. we have a used 03 ZX6R in silver goin for $5,999 if you live int he area give us a call 949-582-0351 ext 4 =sales.

this is a pretty ignorant statement.
as for the bike, i'd go for a used bike .....in the post above mine, 03 silver zx6r for $5999 sounds like a good deal to me unless its been crashed.
and if you decide to get a 600, dont get a zx6rr, just get a zx6r.

Bad bad bad idea. No doubt your friends are excellent riders. However, if they teach you personally, there might be some things they don't mention which they now take for granted, that newbies to riding need to learn.
The MSF class guides you through all the basics. Some insurance companies will give you a discount for this.

i agree. plus some riders have "bad" habbits and may teach you, and you being a virgin to it, will think that its o.k. I learned on dirt bikes when i was young. there is a big diffrence, in the two, but I got the fundementals from that, and now getting more comfortable on the R6. I am taking the course.

You say that now, but try actually doing it when the bike is sitting there in your garage saying, "C'mon, take me out! Just a little bit. Nothing over 8k rpms. Just a quick spin." And we'll see how strong-willed you are then.
Good luck!
