a 50 cent circlips messed up my new Engine !!!!!!! over $ 8000 invested
Here was my newly build setup , B18C1 block with AEBS 85 mm sleeves , 12.8 :1 IB spec pistons , a fully ported & polished B16A head , 70mm T/B , P&P ITR intake manifold , Hondata heat gasket , DTR 2.0 liter header ,2.5 exhaust , 370cc RC injectors , Skunk2 stage II cams , endyne cam gears , Apexi VAFC on a original Mugen ECU (ITR) , MSD Digital 6 + HVC coil , etc.. After building this thing up (3 months to get it all together) and installing it in my ITR , My goal was 220 whp.
We finaly started up the engine and left it on stationary for 5 minutes and it sounded as an F-1 engine ant stationary RPM's.
Then wanted to go for a short brake in ride , and after 10 feet , the engine started to make a knocking sound !! Oeps , stoped the engine .
Then took off the the valve cover to inspec everything , then we took of the oilpan and found one pistonpin circlips in the oilpan , then took off the cylinderhead and took out the piston. The piston pin moved sideways and messed up the sleeve. Now after 3 days I still feel like ****...... I bought this complete shortblok , fully assembled and didn't open the engine to inspect everything.
Now I called the company that build the engine and they will install a new sleeve , rod & piston. The problem is the 9.000 miles between us !!
Now I need to this engine to be ready in two weeks!! My race season starts , So I will replace this B18C1 block by my B18C5(6) block with 81mm bore (stock) with CTR pistons. Hope to make at least 200 whp out of the ITR block with all the above extra's ?????

Im sorry to hear this happen to you Douglas.. im sure the people who assembled the short block had good intentions.. but things like this do happen and it just unfortunate that you happen to be so far away... i hope everything works outs in your favor.. best regards.... Danny@DTRFAB

has NOTHING to do with the rods, circlip comes with the piston and its most likely installer error

Damn that sucks man. I remember that happened to me when I used to work on 2 stroke motors. That tiny circlip popped out when it was running, and completely destroyed one of the sleeves, and the piston.

Sorry about you're situation. I learned the hard way also not to get any custom work done from far away. Because when something goes wrong it's just a hassle to send **** back to get fixed. But i hope all goes well for your motor.

You should be able to hit 200 with that setup.

i was asking about the rods because i heard of the same thing happening in a chevy motor, but the rods were reworked.i say installer error also,if you can put the clip in yourself and make it stay,id be raising hell with the one who assembled your motor.
reay hope to get 200 whp or 225 fwhp out of it for now , untill my 2.0 liter block is repaired.
Hi,
I won't post any names of the builder , it can happen to anyone. And he will rebuild it.

It's a small circular clip that's used to hold the piston pin in place.
