Default Exhaust Gas Recirculation/Vacume Line

ok.....last fall i installed my AEM CAI.......upon removing the filter houseing/piping, we realized there was another item that had to be removed (for the new piping to fit).......it was a black box and had some wires (i dont think it was a sensor) running into it, and there was a black hose running into it (about an 1/8in in diameter) the hose runs back to the firewall, and then up towards the right wheel well and plugs into what i believe is a vacume pump....we plugged this wire w/ a rubber nipple proided in the AEM kit......the AEM directions were REALLY unclear, and we couldnt quiet figure out what that was for......haynes manual gives no solution to this cept that it might have to do w/ the exhaust recirculation lline....but thats prob not right....well......today for ***** i popped the hood while it was running and pulled out the nipple and realized that the tube is sucking in air.....ive been gettting **** gas milege for a few weeks now (been getting progressivly worse).....the plugs are brand new (though they are **** plugs)....im wondering if this tube has anything to do w/ this, and should i leave it plugged or unplugged?

EDIT: ill try to get a dig camer from a friend in take some pics of what im talking about

my buddy and i just got done installing A DC Sports intake on his 97 accord, and we ran into the same thing. did you notice that there are electrical wires running off that little solenoid that has the vacuum lines ging to the vacuum pump and down into the wheel well area? we bought a 2 ft. piece of that black tubing and reconnected it to the intake nipple and zip tied the two black tubes. the solenoid(that was taken off the little black box) is a 12volt for emissions i believe. definitely want to reconnect all the black tubing. he hasnt had any fuel issues and the intake is sucking air just fine.
